'25 Portal Thread

Heupel likes the roster AND we will probably sign three more portal players. As for the numbers, there are some current players that know they will move up at their position or leave after Spring. This particular thread is too exhausting to service regularly, or engage in Q&A, but we are down the road with a difference-maker at WR, a guard/center, and a safety. With the WR, I know everyone is very tight-lipped for some reasons that will make sense after the fact. I’m not trying to be cryptic, but I can’t (and I assume others can’t) share anything until that one is on the dotted line. Additionally there are a couple of other players that are connected to possible departures by two high profile coaches. There are players we’d make room for, and specifically a very good RB has reached out. If a coaching move happens, he’ll come. There is a lot to shake out, but the signs seem to point to three additional signings between now and Summer, and possibly more. As for how I feel about the current state of things— keeping Boo and Matthews, and others who entertained leaving, is huge. I think our WR room has more promise than we are acknowledging. I’m a bigger fan of Jefferson than many, and I continue to think he, Matthews and Staley are very underrated. My only concern is that the three guys were heavily pursuing are all in bets with no backup plan. In fairness, this staff has done very well delivering on a focused portal plan to date. I think they will again this year.
Thanks for the information.

Back to the panic circle jerk though now for most.

Larry has connections through UTAD and VASF, if i'm not mistaken. Perhaps not an insider. I recall him keeping very detailed roster records for decades. just my recollection.

Tennessee needs a difference maker at WR.l
LWS, Deerpark, Metal and some of those guys are about as connected as they come. Idk about “insider status” whatever the hell that is anymore but they know stuff before AP or Hubbs at times. Also like anyone else they can and are wrong at times bc in the real world stuff changes.

So, a WR, OL, Safety, and RB? What about a DT?

I’m starting to think that with Eason returning, Garner likes his DT room. Look for guys like Wallace and Robinson to make a jump year to provide rotational depth. And a freshman like Campbell or House or Utley might also be the 6th man in that rotation.

So we are relying on a couple coaches that might change jobs to add a couple players? Seems risky don’t you think?

We do have Jacobe getting healthy and Jourdan Thomas back as upperclassmen, and a couple bluechip freshmen DBs coming in. The cupboard isnt bare at Safety. Wouldnt hurt to add another one but its not a dire need IMO. We actually dont have any dire needs. Which speaks to this staff recruiting and retaining our roster. Be nice to add another Guard, a Safety, maybe a DT and a WR....but we dont have to add anyone at all this portal season IMO beyond Moe and Jefferson. I am interested to see what happens, but not in the least bit stressed about our roster. We have a 9-3 type year coming regardless IMO where a bunch of young guys get much needed reps at WR, LB and on the Oline and Dline.
In my mind we can’t count on Jourdan Thomas til he shows that he can stay healthy

I think he'd go somewhere he knows he'll be the likely starter at Tackle. From reports, we have Heard and Sanders locked in to the T starting spots. Maybe he'd be open to playing G for a season until Heard leaves?
Not trying to be argumentative but what “reports” have said Davis is locked in at a tackle spot? All I’ve seen is speculation/assumption on here.

Wow. Damon Wilson chose Mizzou over Ohio State.

I know you and the other insiders have kind of had your fill of this place and I can see why. Thanks for the update.

On the OL: What’s the word on Bennett Warren? Think he can develop and push for a role or is David Sanders beating him out from the jump?

Not exactly. It gets you another year with Joshua Josephs. It gets Jordan Ross and Caleb Herring on the field. It gets Tyre West in a starting position. We get Jourdan Thomas back at safety. It gets young WR's playing time.

Since the beginning of time, players have developed over years, yet we have some who think our guys can't. They also complain when our recruiting classes are bad. VN never changes.
People have lost their minds since the port hole thing started. College football has always been a reload sport. Sign guys, develop them, they move on, and you replace them.

Lol
No solution or names mentioned at all
Just as I suspected
Have you applied for any of those coaching positions you named to be replaced….
Maybe you should and we can see how you do
