'25 Portal Thread

Seeing some of the comments on here, one would think we were NOT a playoff team this year.
The RF is becoming more and more like the FF which is damn sad

Most likely this thread started in FF and was moved to RF. Threads like that usually become dumpster fires.

We were always only going to take a handful of portal guys at the most. Just because a player enters the portal from another team does not mean they are a fit for us. Coaches are trying to keep their own team and find a few transfers that fit.

I’d definitely take him, but I don’t know if he’s someone we would go after.

Other than the ND game, he’s been a very consistent player all season.

It's hard to judge their WRs at Penn State with the type of offense they run. Could come here and be elite! But like you said, I doubt we go after him.Dont seem like a "splash" type guy.

We'll end up passing for the "splash WR" we're going to get from OSU that never materializes.

Sorry to be negative, but I've just lived this story too many times. I can already see the "He decided not to enter the portal" posts coming. We put our eggs in one basket and when they all break, we have no backup. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm in "need to see it to believe it" mode.

I noticed the list of "Big Donors" only included Peyton Manning as someone who has played at UT and donates lots of money. What about all the other VFLs out there who have made it big? We have numerous players who have made it to the MLB, NBA, and NFL. Why aren't they supporting Tennessee athletics?? Or maybe they are but just not as much as some of the others. Just thought with as many athletes who have come from TN that there would be a few more athletes on that list, imo.

I have it on good authority that the reason we have been willing to spend so little and thus been so inactive in the porthole is because we spent all of that money on bringing James Pearce Jr back for one more year. Just been keeping it quite so others wouldn’t transfer out.

And by good authority I mean I just made this sh!t up.

I seem to recall that Todd Helton gave 1 mill to the Tennessee Baseball Program in 2022 - I have read that he has donated "millions" to the Baseball Program and the University. Not aware of any others.

I will speak my 2 cents as to NiL giving. One I would not give a penny to this lineman going to Ducks. He has no love for this state no love for University no love for you the great TN Fan only cares about becoming a millionaire off your hard earned money. Now guys like Cooper and Big O who have given there All for Tennessee I'm glad they make NiL. Now I know all the money goes into 1 pot so you can't decipher between the 2 so I choose not to give to make many of these kids millionaires when they couldn't care anything about all of you. Send your money to St Jude, Shriners, Tunnel to Towers and of course the work of the Gospel of Christ or any group that reaches those who truly need your help. In CHRIST Alone.

According to Basilio, the staff spent the majority of the NIL budget on their high school class, which is pretty pathetic considering it's in the 10-15 range. Basically, said they better hope their evaluations are correct because it feels like they overpaid for a lot of guys. Obviously, a good portion of the budget also went to retaining guys currently on the roster. Just really don't see any way this team isn't worse unless there is a ton of development in key areas.

If we don't pursue him, and we are DEFINITELY looking to add another WR, one has to believe it's Tate we're after. Not saying we get him, just believe he's the one we're waiting on.
