Wow total meltdown in here tonight. We made OSU at 2 million for a number 2 receiver. We made a heck of an effort for a guy that probably didn’t leave and made OSU go to a pretty insane number.

Get the young guys spring reps and see if you need to add a depth piece or a star then hot spring portal.

When a team demonstrates they are willing to pay $2 million for their #2 WR, they set the market. Other WRs will look at that number and use it to negotiate. It's not necessarily a good thing.

Why is everyone so excited we made OSU “overpay”? Overpaying is relative to budget and need. We need Tate far more than OSU. Obviously they have the bigger budget, but not exactly a celebratory moment when a program apparently blows our offer out of the water to keep a luxury around, when that same player would be, by far, our most experienced and explosive WR.

Let them. You just gotta be smart on when you pay the big bucks and when you need to let them walk and sign underrated replacements that as a whole outperform the one player who wanted the big bucks.
If we had a player of Jeremiah Smith's caliber, I'd let Tate walk and replace his production with 2-3 cheaper options. If you're a school like Ohio State you should recruit well enough to where you should never need to overpay for a #2 WR.

How do you think we landed David Sanders? If you overpay in the portal it'll affect what you have to spend in recruiting. Nobody has endless pockets. Every team is on a budget. By getting Ohio State to overpay for Tate it'll help us next time we're going head to head with them for a recruit. We landed David Sanders cause we were willing to pay a premium they weren't. In large part because we didn't spend as much as them in the portal and on other recruits.

OSU has the one thing Tennessee couldn't offer and that's Brian Hartline. Best WR coach in College Football.

Vols are fine. Portal opens back up after spring practice. We are about to get a commitment for 2026 of the number one WR hopefully. I think people forget Spyre and NIL focus should always be on the top recruits out of high school. You win titles with most of your players being developed out of high school.

the miss in portal is not Tate lol the miss is when there were WRs better or more talent in the portal prior and we never made any noise with what so ever.

UNLESS our staff has determined that among our 6 underclass WR already on the roster we meet or exceed the rest of the portal options.

Just getting macho points with expensive purchases in the portal does not seem to be a priority.

We are absolutely cooked. No experience at WR. No true WR1. And we don’t have Dylan Sampson to carry the offense. I’m sorry but there is just no excitement or hope that we can have another great season

How experienced was Tate before this season?

Staff has spent hours evaluating our 4 FR WR, what have you got to support a step to the edge of the bridge moment? AT LEAST wait till post spring to see the room and IF they think there is a need or a mobile NO-BRAINER guy in the late portal.

Why is everyone saying “we” made Ohio st overpay?

Texas and Oregon were supposedly offering $1 million plus .
What did we offer?
Anyone got any evidence that we made them spend $2 mil?

Whether we were the lead dog or just in the pack does not matter, we were involved and it cost them 2 mil.

Once he exceeded our evaluation it does not matter.

all this yelling and freaking out sounds similar to the DB situation last year

Teams gonna be fine honestly
Just glad it sounds like our coaches are finally tampering and swinging for the fences

Everyone was so excited to hear we were and forgot what happens when you miss….

But, this team will be fine, WR room got better simply by subtraction
Young guys are gonna get to play and people are still pissed
Just the fact that Tennessee even had a shot at Tate is impressive coming off a championship and playing for the best/most popular WR coach in the nation

That camvol8 guy is an idiot
I guess he forgot that Tennessee will improve and get better this offseason and bolstered the line significantly…..

People need to worry more about our safety and CB play then WR

I meant the staff viewed the other options as... wait for it... better players. And you lose the veterans like Mays and Sampson that basically ran the offense
Because those players were older and more experienced vs young and inexperienced. Again, that’s how college football works. Young players come in, gain knowledge and experience, learn the system, get stronger, and replace the veterans who are moving on. I don’t know where this notion comes from that all freshmen should be starting year one or they are a bust.

Peyton Manning ran the offense in 97 and when he graduated it was automatically gonna be a step back the next year, until it wasn’t. You have to replace good/great players every year.

I don’t want my team relying on a bunch of freshman and sophomores. We saw it at LB this year. Carter is very talented, but he was out of position a lot because of inexperience. That isn’t ideal to me. Sprinkle in the young guys who are ready (they all develop differently) but rely on the upperclassmen.

You also have to remember, this roster is still transitioning from 3 star dominated to blue chippers. It’s a process no matter how badly we want it to be instant. Even with that we have been a to 10 team 2 of the last 3 years.

We’re getting there

we would like to have a difference maker, but I think that is already on campus.

Having a solid contributor with experience would be bueno. Honestly i'm glad pre madonna stayed in Columbus. Save the money for 26 class, and get a Velus 3rd.

Matthews, Brazzell, Staley, Amari, and Boo are gonna be better then McCoy, Squirrel, Thornton, Webb, Nimrod
This…Thornton is the only loss in that second group…and he could barely stay healthy most of the time…I legitimately like Jefferson’s potential over anyone from our team that went in the portal…I also believe Matthews is going to be a star on Tates level and Brazzell and Staley are going to adequately replace Thornton and White…I do wonder how much O Boo is actually going to play but he would also be an upgrade over White in the slot…I would like to see us add one more WR but not just a depth player…if the right player hits the portal go for it…if not, just role with what we have…talent wise it’s as good or better than the vast majority of the country

The 2026 receiver doesn’t help for next season. The issue is going into next season with only 7 receivers. The majority of those have little to no experience. On top of that, you are a couple injuries away from having no depth.
