If so, I'll say it again....this will be Heupel's Kelly Washington moment. I'll file this red flag right next to Heupel's preference to hire and retain buddies who are subpar coaches/evaluators/recruiters.....to my eye anyway.
Vols made a Business Decision... I would've done the same I understand there's a huge amount of fans that are still stuck in the 80's and 90's and loyalty means everything. If so, I'll say it again....this will be Heupel's Kelly Washington moment. No, but you can roll with guys you recruited and try and add some backup depth thru the portal. Might luck out and find a guy who's better than what's on the roster. There is, after all, a precedent. It can and has happened before. I have no skin in the game like the players and coaches so it's easy for me to say let Gibson walk and take our chances with what we have and can get. Regardless of who's idea it was to try and take advantage of the injury situation, it irks me that much. Yeah, I'd be stubborn about it. It's the principal of the thing. Heupel opened the door wider with this one. Hope he's prepared for the consequences. One does not just go and obtain a starting SEC CB in Spring.
I see your point, but it's not so much loyalty as being a man of your word. No idea if there's a contract or not, but from what I've heard on talk shows and read, UT and Gibson came to an agreement 6-8 weeks ago. Now the kid and his camp want to toss that and renegotiate. Just doesn't sit well with me. I'll be curious to see how he practices and performs going forward. Sometimes player who gets their big payday aren't as motivated and their approach to the game isn't the same. Should be interesting to watch.Vols made a Business Decision... Honestly, I don't care if it happens somewhere else....and obviously it does. I only care about what happens in UTs house. Call me old fashioned and/or naive if you will, but I really hope Heupel didn't give in on this one. Stand for your principles even if it's not popular or convenient....especially under those circumstances. And yeah, I know it's easy for me to say. It's not my job/career on the line.Every coach that gave any player a “raise”, or went back to the negotiating table for a committed prospect that then asked for more, is in the same position. Also known as every coach for every program in the country that is serious about football.

Oh please, you would also say it was a red flag if we lost him.If so, I'll say it again....this will be Heupel's Kelly Washington moment. I'll file this red flag right next to Heupel's preference to hire and retain buddies who are subpar coaches/evaluators/recruiters.....to my eye anyway.
It's also apparently, not so much Gibson's fault, as it is his "circle"No, but you can roll with guys you recruited and try and add some backup depth thru the portal. But, but, where's players loyalty.Every coach that gave any player a “raise”, or went back to the negotiating table for a committed prospect that then asked for more, is in the same position. Also known as every coach for every program in the country that is serious about football.

He better play all SEC ball. He is using mercenary tactics. Several of them are. If those guys don’t play at the level they are getting paid and we trash bad performance, don’t give me they are just kids. That is not where we are at any longer. Coaches and players both better get results. Prices have went up and now we are no longer fans of giving the old college try.
is it actually Heupel's or someone in the admins principles? as far as I have seen they are all very pro-NIL. its certainly not fun for them to deal with, but that doesn't mean its a matter of principle to them.Honestly, I don't care if it happens somewhere else....and obviously it does. Agree 100%. Take Ryan Day. He's a tool, but the staff he's hired around him is elite. He gave in, gave up playcalling duties and won a NC. Heupel has the means to bring in an elite staff, yet chooses his buddies. Atleast on the offensive side. Our offensive Coach's are average at best. I wish he would go hire an elite play caller and Heupel worry about being the CEO of his teamIf so, I'll say it again....this will be Heupel's Kelly Washington moment.
