I don’t necessarily disagree with any of this, I just think someone is pressuring Nico into these negotiations, most likely a family member. It is indeed the state of the sport atm. I just think if it was purely up to Nico he’d be content with his original deal and just focused on getting to work. Just that type of vibe I get.
If Nico isn't pushing for it and a family member is the one pushing, he should be extremely grateful to have that family member. He'd be stupid not to be the one pushing for it.

This is from a bball insider in the Trilly discord that has plenty of connections:

"Nico’s inner circle has been trying to drum up interest from some west coast schools but I don’t think they’ve found a legitimate taker. They reached out to Oregon and Lanning called Heupel to let him know haha"

"There’s no market for Nico at the price point his family thinks. He’s sat out practices this spring and this has become a headache for the staff so getting this out there and painting the family in a bad light is fine from Tennessee’s perspective. It’s been pretty ridiculous over the last 4-5 months."

Perhaps. One way to look at it. But what is Nico’s dream? These constant negotiations could be a huge distraction for Nico and lead to awkward locker room dynamics. Tryna squeeze out every cent right now could really hurt you in the long run is all im saying. I don’t think it’s as black and white as you’re making it out to be.

Ohio State would hand Nico $4 million in a heartbeat. I know Ohio State isn't West Coast...

Ugh. I'm really high on Nico's talent and think he has the potential to take off this year, and I was impressed with his apparent humility and demeanor last year, but if this is true I'm ready for Merklinger lol.

Every practice report this spring has mentioned Nico. So is he sitting out after the media leaves? Hmmm....

Nico is (hopefully) going to be a Vol. And he’s going to have a better season this year than last. That’s what I think. The staff/vol club need to get this worked out and over with. Then he can leave or go to the NFL next summer. Anyone wanting him to go is idiotic. He’s our starting quarterback for a reason. Why would we want him to leave at this point? One more year for Merk and he will be ready.

If this is true, he is a problem so let him go. Not sure how the $$$$ work, lump some or installments. Per year, per season or all up front. NIL is nasty.

I wonder how Spry is on this. Freedom of Information act should give us the right to see the NIL paperwork.

I personally thought it was a click article at first, but the sitting out of practices should be verifiable. We have recruited well at QB to fill the gap.
This could be the problem as well and NICO knows it.
NICO is doing damage to himself more so than most think. Coach's will not touch this crap.

Going to sit back and assess info.

QB is such an important position, of leadership. You can't lead a team and engage in behavior like sitting out.

I think it's a smear piece personally.

Either way lets renew, and roll.

I’m sorry, but come on on now. If he’s been sitting out practices, there’s absolutely 0% chance it’s looked over and not reported on. And we’re also supposed to believe Dan Lanning took the call and, instead of looking into it, says “nah, I’m calling my boy Heup and not taking this into consideration”?

This bball insider is either mistaken, mishearing/misreporting information, or full of it.

Nobody is gonna pay big money for Nico except for us. That should tell you something right there.
