It's probably because of the teams from the old BIG XII North. When A&M left for the SEC the northern schools insisted they be replaced by another team from Texas...thus TCU was added. It insured at least two games in Texas each season for exposure and recruiting purposes.
Plus, The City of Houston is about to surpass Chicago as the third largest city in the country. Add in the surrounding counties and there are a lot of potential eyeballs for the TV partners (and recruits).
True but I kind of see Houston like MTSU or Vandy. Sure they are in a populated area but they live in the shadow of other programs.
Most of Houston will tune in to watch the Longhorns and Aggies. No one will care about Houston.
