Once I can figure my scanner out, I'll put up a picture of the Great Dane/Bull Mastiff mix I had when I was little. That dog was huge.

I had a lab before I came to school. I gave it to my uncle (he has 3 daughters) when I came to UT.

This summer, a dachshund showed up at my dad's and decided to stay. He's an odd little dog that would rather eat bugs, worms and moles than dog food. He hangs out with me when I come home from school.

I am getting a lab when I graduate. He's either going to be chocolate or black.

I've had several labs and they have all been great.

I agree that Labs are a good breed to have as long as they have some room to run. They never seem to run out of energy, so they relandscape your yard for you, chew almost anything smaller than an engine block, and I would be nervous about an engine block. They are as strong a dog/pound as I have ever been around, very protective, but still happy go lucky in attitude. Have you ever read Marley and Me? Great book, any dog lover should read it. I'm with you VolsGal, give me a large dog.

Well, I am compelled to bump this up. My wife bought a yellow lab on impulse this last weekend. My kids named her sleeping beauty because she was sacked out when they picked her up. We are calling her Beauty.

She and my Boxer, Leia, are getting along great. I think Beauty is bringing out some maternal instincts in Leia.

I had friends that had boxers in the past. Leia is the first I have owned. She is a great dog. Oddly, having the puppy around has seemed to mellow her out.

Too cute! That boxer has the "what are you looking at" attitude in two pictures, one with the new dog and then one with the picture taker.

I have a beagle/boxer mix named JJ, a chocolate lab mix named Coco and another dog named Girly Girl. She is a mixed breed. Looks like a Golden Retreiver in color but not as big. She just had 6 pups last weekend. My son named all of them by the way. We also have a boat load of roosters and chickens and about 25 baby chicks right now.

I love seeing all the Boxers, I also grew up with them. My Boxer (Bud) died last summer from a brain tumor, he was only 6 years old. I got real attached to him because he had the most unique personality I have ever seen in a dog. My wife and I decided to get a dog from the pound this time around so I got my first dog that is not a Boxer. We got a female named Abby and she is about 11 mos. old right now. She is a Lab and German Sheppard mix according to the pound. She looks more like a Lab and Great Dane to us than Sheppard.

Sorry to hear about your boxer, jkell24. A Lab/German Shepherd mix sounds like it would make for a great dog.

I had a Lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with my first wife. That dog was awesome. Quite a personality.

Thanks. I was hesitant not to get another Boxer but my wife talked me into getting a dog from the Humane Society. Abby is a good dog and she just loves us for getting her out of the pound. She starts crying when we leave for work. I would like to get another Boxer down the road.

I will admit that I feel a bit guilty for not going the humane society route myself. I had intended to, but my wife got drawn into the cute litter of full blooded yellow labs. I can't say too much since I basically did the same thing with our boxer 3 years ago.

we looked at the SPCA before getting our dog but they were 95% Pitbulls around here (thanks Michael Vick). Plus I could see the temperament of the parents and knew it would be the right dog.

She now wants to get a 2nd dog but I'm really trying to hold her off. My hope really took a shot after vader's post :p

Glad to help. :)

I have been very pleased with how well the dogs are getting along. Leia (the boxer) really seems to be acting like a surrogate mother right now. They are so sweet together. It is almost as if we got the boxer a puppy.

We have a rescue beagle - best dog in the world. He was abandoned by what was thought to be hunter's...guess they thought he wasn't a good enough rabbit hunter! So sad because they make such good, sweet pets! We love this little guy and will rescue another when the time is right!

He did his thing and sniffed this little guy out...We saved it just in time! Actually, he just licked it, didn't want to hurt it.

Loves our cat...doesn't mind when she takes over his bed.

Last Nov. we rescued another Yellow Lab mix that was on Dogs in Danger.com two days before his execution day. The two of them had a shaky beginning, but took up after a week. Now she would be lost without him, they wrestle and roughouse for hours a day. She is much more settled down now.
