Great points across the board.

I don't see rebounding or shot selection becoming a ton better. Across the board, we just don't have the level of athlete to where we can get constant rim pressure. We need to get back to pushing the ball though. We were doing that in the other games. If ZZ can get back to where he needs to be, we can still have a great year. We need to have a plan of action on offense in crunch time. Running system is great, but when it comes down to get buckets, the ball needs to be in Dalton or Santi's hands to make a play.
I agree about the shot selection but I hope like heck you're wrong about the rebounding. That should be dramatically helped with a major point of emphasis by the coaches and an asserted effort by the players. Only crashing 1 or 2 should lead to 2-3 player substitutions at a time until it improves. I do realize/understand there should always be 1 back as a safety valve, but there should always be a minimum of 3 crashing. imo

I’m not sure a lack of “crashing” is as much the problem verses properly blocking out. Got to emphasize in practice getting your body in front of the opponents instead of just standing near the basket. JMO

Noticed it with Dalton a couple of times in the early games at home. Rick promptly took him out lol

Probably fair to say both, but there were several times against Purdue and Kansas we only sent 1 or 2.

A very good team (like last year) with some of the same problems like:
--Inconsistent 3 point shooting
--Inability to get to and finish at the basket
--Scoring in the low post is a struggle
--Rebounding is not a strength

Most of the things listed above contribute to the 5 min droughts at the most inopportune times. In both games on Saturday, the Vols would waste 10 min stretches of great defense and fail to build on 6-8 point leads. Seems like the lose their intensity a little when they get a lead and fail to build on it.

The pieces are there but they need to develop some toughness which would allow them to get better looks at the basket in times of need. It's a lot easier to get a 3 point shot than it is to work hard enough to get a bucket in the paint. Kansas took about 12 3 point shots while the Vols took about 40. Biggest reason why was the Jay Hawks were willing to work hard enough to get better shot in their offense. Vols need to develop that level of toughness.

We’ve been saying this for 5 years it seems like.

Looks like Jesus. Plays like Mary.
I have never heard that phrase, before. Now, looks like Tarzan and plays like Jane, I've heard a million times. It's obviously the same idea, but I have still never heard it. I guess I've learned a new one, at 52.

Same old story with basketvols. Start the season with sky high expectations, everyone agrees they look like a final four team on paper. One problem, they can't put ball through hoop reliably enough to make it through tournaments. If we had Rick Barnes recruiting and defense with a competent offensive coach/scheme we'd win a bunch of nattys.

Jane was actually one of the great athletes of her time.

The program has been trending up for over a decade. Being on bubble watch half the time pretty much limits the upside. We now have the players and the staff to reach higher highs. But much of the winning in the NCAAT is affected by random luck and matchups and venues and the competence and consistency of officiating. Some things can’t be controlled. Purdue and Edey rolled through their schedule and were bounced by a 16 seed. So was Virginia.

I was intrigued by “we’d win a bunch of nattys” in his post. It seems so easy to do. If only we had a coach who…….fill in the blank.

After some thought, one thing I think we need to do more of is post up knecht. He was struggling to drive some in this tourney but anytime he got the defender on his back it was game over. Would like to see us run some sets for him to get the ball on the block to get some paint scoring and inside out play.

Everybody was just expecting a guy from a mid-major to come in here and keep putting up 25 a night and that's just not gonna happen. The book on him is out. It's time for him and the coaches to make the next adjustment. Posted up a smaller guard is definately a good option with his size.

??? He averaged over 15ppg in Maui and hadn’t put up 25 in a single regular season game this year? He had 15, 13 & 10 in the first half of all 3 of those games…not sure I would say any “book” is out, I think if anything he got fatigued a bit and isn’t used to anything like what he faced in Maui from a jet lag, to quick turnaround, to back-back-back games.

Offensive scheme is fine. You're another one who just doesn't get the NCAA tournament
