I think a lot of VFLs will appreciate hearing from the other side. EU brought a class act to Knoxville. I'd love to see us schedule them OOC regularly in the future. They sound like the kind of program college baseball needs more of.

Schools that do it right--while competing hard against each other--also need to support each other because the powers that be are not going to make college sports healthier--it's up to the ADs and coaches to keep standards high and priorities in order.

Sorry if I missed it but I'm trying to piece together what went on the last 2 games/interviews. Somebody give a quick summary? What was going on with the comment about don't come here looking for money and waste my time also? Thx.

Almost felt like there were several shots across the bow in that statement.

I almost felt like the constant media narrative about Evansville was wearing thin, all the doom and gloom about TN and the constant references to 2022 were enough. These guys hear it and Tony had enough.

All that being said, we’ve got to keep Tony at any cost. The guy personifies what we stand for as a University and an athletic program as a whole.

They absolutely are a high class bunch. We made sure to give them a hand when the coach and 2 players came out after their media time.

And I was also glad Vitello mentioned them, and their CF, in his post game. The team, their coach, and their fans earned a hell of a lot of respect.

He was answering the question from the previous night for Burke. It was very unprofessional for the question to be asked and he was pissed about it. The season can't be a failure if you have trophies for regular season and tournament. I think the pressure to win the game yesterday and the release of it after the win gave him the option to scold the press. It was a nice scolding!

Finally got to watch this and all I can say is CTV’s opening statement is pure gold. Makes me want to run through a wall for this man. Oh wait, I don’t have to. As my moniker implies I know a thing or two about small missiles so I’ll just use one to blow the wall clean out of the way. GBO!!!

He wants players who want to be here and be developed into ballplayers as well as men. He's not gonna look at buying players because that just doesn't work in the locker room. This coach just gets it.

The more I watch Tony's statement here, the more I wonder how people can say he's not everybody's cup of tea. It's just such a weird narrative, but I feel like a lot of people (who aren't Tennessee fans, of course) feel like they have to preface their praise for him by saying that. But seriously—he's smart, he's funny, he's self deprecating, he cares a lot about his players, and he always goes to great lengths to praise our opponents for their efforts. He also seems to know a thing or two about baseball.

At this point, if you don't like him, it's because you're jealous or he beats your team (or because you're the scorned ex-girlfriend in Fayetteville who says she can't stand him but prays every night that he'll take her back).

I know you wrote that as a compliment to their team.

But that would also be the "corporate American" thing to do (and I say that critically, as a political conservative). Sure, if EU has a kid who needs to come to Tennessee in order to fulfil his potential, then I'd want him to have that opportunity.

But all of us, as we compete in life, need to keep a few brain cells looking out for the greater good. Pat Summitt was all Tennessee Orange. But she also did things to encourage the growth and maturity of women's college basketball, despite knowing that it would create greater competition for her team.

Corporate money inevitably drives us toward super conferences that would end up limiting the opportunities for players whose lives could be positively shaped by programs like that at Evansville. I hope Danny and Tony appreciate that and continue to support those schools. I think they will.

Just because things can be done doesn't mean they should be done. I guess mankind just has to keep relearning that. We've read about the Tower of Babel, watched a dozen movies about Frankenstein, but here we are again... about to enter a world run by AI.
