Almost 43 percent of all minimum wage workers are children, 26 percent are married family heads or spouses, 11 percent are single family heads, and 17 percent are single people (another 3 percent are other relatives).

sounds like i'm 100% correct.

yup. we have tens of millions of them.

And for the rest, we can't keep the minimally employable from procreating over and over and over and over again. Amazing that our progressives haven't found an effective way to help those folks protect themselves better. Planned Parenthood can only do so much.

And how do you arrive at that conclusion ?

do you think the heritage foundation is asking people if they are here legally? The 43 percent of all minimum wage workers are children and 17 percent are single people are undoubtably students or people who flunked out of HS.

What about the 26 percent that are married family heads or spouses and the 11 percent that are single family heads ?

How do you conclude 17 percent are single people are undoubtably students or people who flunked out of HS ?

they aren't all illegal immigrants. That head of household thing is full of HS dropout types that didn't have the sense to avoid bringing kids into a horrendous financial situation or got married young and were just willing to deal with fighting through it.

Sounds like if they are indeed not illegeals that 57% of minimum wage workers need to try to improve their life.

of course not 100%. but most. the point being raising the minimum wage will have very little effect in getting americans out of poverty.

of course it doesn't. It's window dressing and nothing more. It's the reason a loaf of bread costs dramatically more here than in the third world. The difference in production cost is almost all attributable to American labor costs.

but I'm agreeing with droski. Most proffering the stats you tossed out are arguing for minimum wage hikes, which do nothing but make our labor less competitive around the world. We have absolutely priced ourselves out of the labor markets. We lament the job losses and gripe that the government needs to fix it via protectionism, but our elected officials have done it to us via hollow vote buying.

when you go to your local mcdonalds or dairy queen who is serving you? all 40 year old hard working americans right?

There are several adults 30-60 working in fast food in my area. They are also working at grocery, convenient stores, department stores etc.

I understand how that went down and that my point refuted his to some degree, but I agree with his premise. The stats don't talk to overlap in those categories, but there is a bunch of it.

His point about kids and illegals is the right one.

Not many illegeals working in those here, but most that work (esp in fast food) qualify as the ones who haven't exactly made the wisest decisions in life.

Most people that work in the grocery stores around here are HS or college kids, stay at home moms who need a little something to do during the day, and older people that just need out of the house for a few hours.

You mean mentally challenged...let's be politically correct here. In any case, I too observe may white people(which would make me think they are legal citizens) working at fast food restaurants, walmart etc. Don't see to many "Mentally Challenged" though. Perhaps California has more than most states.:)

our best workers at the supermarkets are the retards. trust me. they work 10X harder than the normal people.
