Poythress Recruitment A Huge Opportunity For Coach Martin.

I spoke to a person a few days ago that is a candidate for the AD position. Said the feeling by him and some is the Martin will not be able to get big-time recruits and Martin feels he has the ability to recruit lesser talent, coach them up and win. This person said he felt like UT isn't being run like a major program, but like a Missouri Valley program. Martin is most likely a disciplined, clean cut type that will get UT through the NCAA issues.

This person said there is no way Fulmer will be AD as most over there don't want to deal with his wife and she is the one who really runs things.

There are 17 associate AD's on men's side and nine on women's side and it's a total mess in the AD office... Florida for example has 13 total.

It sure feels that way.

Really? And yet in the news article that came out when the consolidation was announced, it said that this wouldn't mean a reduction in the amount being spent on administration.

Go figure.

This post hurt my eyeballs to read. We need to shed some of the bureaucratic weight, make an announcement that PF is not a real candidate, and let Martin run the program his way until he proves he can't win. If, by year three, we aren't competing in the SEC and gunning for 20 wins, it will be time to throw out the big bucks for a big name.

Good luck with that...When have you ever known UT to fork over the big bucks for a big name basketball coach?

I would bet that this person is not going to get serious consideration for AD. Making comments that your current basketball coach doesn't believe he can recruit elite talent, but wants to recruit lesser talent and "coach them up" is absolutely absurd. Why would he leave a mid-major job if he truly believed he could only recruit mid-major talent?

Excellent point.

The person was a finalist for the job last time.

It would be absurd, but that's not what I said. I said the feeling of some is that Martin won't be able to get the elite guys. Martin does believe he can recruit "under the radar" types and coach them up.

May want to re-read your post.

Way too many stars on ESPN and Rivals for Martin to pull this one off. 1 or No stars and hes a lock.

Why? I said the feeling by him, the person I spoke to (not Martin) and some... I never said Martin feels like he can't recruit elite prospects.

Do we really want an AD who thinks our newly hired basketball coach can't recruit and runs the basketball program like a mid-major program? Perfect marriage, don't you think?

If it's the truth, yes. Especially all that this person has accomplished in the sports world, on the field and off. I'll trust his opinion at this point.

No doubt, we need to fire Martin before he coaches a game and give him a multi-million dollar buy out. Makes perfect sense. Your guy is evaluating the basketball coach as an indicated candidate for the AD job and has already decided that he can't recruit and runs the program like a mid-major before he ever coaches a game. Excellent candidate and one we obviously should hire.

Does that mean your AD candidate is a certain former coach?

EDIT: Nevermind, you mentioned it wasn't Fulmer. Is your AD candidate a former coach though?

Only he doesn't have the talent on hand that Mears left behind.
