Practice 9/6

Well good lord, they've let Justin Martin have game opportunities, and he has stunk to high heaven. Why does he get playing time and the others don't even get a chance to prove it on the field?

If you guys have played sports, think back to when you played about the guys who were a "coaches dream". They always seemed to do the right thing in practice and that usually earns playing time.

Then there are the guys who are just gamers. Calloway showed us he's a gamer Monday night. He didn't even start like you guys said. Some guys have that next level kick in and some guys get lost in the lights. I am assuming some things for our coaches but it seems as though they take the safe route instead of letting some of our gamers be discovered.

That's complete nonsense. *Healthy Tuttle will make a HUGE difference. He ATE VT for breakfast last year (UF, too, if I recall correctly but definitely VT).

And no, this will be remembered as the defense that allowed the most rushing yards in program history.....and still won :)

Good angle on this play. The ironic part is if number 75 makes a regular block instead of a cut block, the GT QB probably has enough time to make the pitch.

The defense didn't win......the TEAM won because our offense scored more points than the other team .

whats even better in that gif is Jumper being in position, yet whiffing on the tackle because he just lunged forward with his head down.... :ermm:

Jumper didn't whiff, he nailed Taylor with one of his best hits of the night. It's a wonder he didn't knock Taylor off of him.

Was it Jumper that hit him first and then DT cleaned it up?

Edit: Oh OK. I see you guys got the jump on me with the analysis.

Even if Tuttle returns for Florida we won't have a formidable front with our current roster . They'll be remembered , along with Hoke and Shoop , as the defense that allowed the most rushing yards in program history .

By your defeatist post your last name fits! We will be fine, come back and talk after the florida game. GBO!!!!

NO Jumper dives at where it looks like Marshall is headed but he turned up field instead and right into Taylor (DE).

In fact , if you consider the last 3 regular season games last year ( Missouri, Kentucky and Vandy) AND Georgia Tech.........we've given up an average 398 yards/game in rushing yards . Almost 400 rushing yards/game . Just incredible .

Are we really criticising our game winning play? Really?

Taylor made a great play. #53 and #20 were also doing their jobs. #20 had the pitchman so he flows to the sideline. #53 has outside contain on the QB; he has to take a wider route to get around the blocking GT#71 and fill the gap left by #20 flowing outside. If #71 blocks Taylor and the QB continues around the edge, #53 has to avoid getting cutoff by that block and leaving #20 in a hopeless 2 on 1 situation. I don't see any criticism for #53 or #20 on this particular play.

#53 Jumper STILL CAN NOT get off blocks and he's not an INSTINCTIVE linebacker to make plays in the backfield as he is always chasing plays and mostly pushing them out of bounds after a 5 yard gain...........C'mon Butch, you have all those ATHLETIC and fast linebackers over the past 2 or 3 years and YOU HAVE NOT DEVELOPED one of them YET !!! C' MON Man.....

Was that Abernathy trailing the play from the backfield and keeping the back from getting into the EZ after catching the pass?

It was close, and if they hadn't called the QB down, that stop would have been HUGE!

Our DB on their full(?)back, 1x1, and he stood him up and stopped him in his tracks. Good on you, Abernathy!

Well of course "formidable" is a relative term left up to interpretation in this case. Nobody on our current roster could lace Big John's boots.

Agree. That's all I was saying. I think we have a few potentially formidable players on defense....Taylor, Bituli, Warrior, Gaulden. But no DT on our roster has the ability to be formidable, except perhaps Tuttle and he has obviously struggled to get on the field.

Yes, Butch is the head coach and ultimately responsible for everything but the guy who needs to start pulling his weight and develop some LBs is the LB coach, Thigpen. Although, I'm very happy with Bituli, the next coaching change at UT will be Thig.

Btw, Jumper gave his all for Tennessee, Monday night. I still prefer Jumper as a capable 10 snap a game backup.

If it had been prophesied before the game that Jennings would be lost, that would have been issued...Callaway's name would have provided zero relief. There might be other players perfectly primed to step up...Murphy comes to mind.
BYRD......get THE MAN the ball in stride QB's.....
GO VOLS!!!!!

Matthew Butler #56 isn't going to redshirt. He and D.Johnson,#13 are next two up on the DL. Likely to see both this Saturday.

Does Thig get any credit for Daniel or has he made a big jump all on his own?

Bituli was at Calhoun's last night...in his own way he's on the fasttrac to call the defensive sets. I hope he can stay healthy.

I suspect Chavis will be looking for a job at the end of the year. :p

Butch is the HC and he has the AUTHORITY to tell THIG, YOu need to develop another LB otherwise, THIG thinks his decision to play Jumper is OK. That's what the HC is supposed to do.........

Atleast the DT's are healthy and big enough to hold the middle. I never want to see players that are 250lb trying to plug the middle again.

With Tuttle,MckJR,Butler,Johnson,Vickers,Pico,Crosby, and Bennent there should be no excuses this year.
