Predict Our Final Class

Forgetting Kongbo. I feel we miss on him, and lose little sleep over it. Not sure he wants to be here anyway. We also hang onto Buchanan. Secondary is the biggest concern in closing out.

We keep Pope, because aside from Ethan Wolf, we are FAR from set at TE. Not sure who Larry is, but if the magic number is 20, there might be a blueshirt or 2.

Yeah I think that ship has sailed for Kongbo, would be happy to have him. If he does not want to be here then next up.

We are so thin at safety and stacked at CB. I wonder if some guys will get moved to S for depth.

I don't know how you can say that when literally every single piece of news since he decommitted has been positive.

- Its been reported that he only decommitted because his family felt it was wrong to still take visits while he was committed.

- We learned that Bituli's dad is from the same area of Africa as Kongbo's family and has been talking to them about smoothing any issues with distance.

- We made Kongbo's final 4 while he eliminated Alabama who many felt was the biggest threat to get him.

- We're now getting the majority of the crystal ball predictions.

This idea that the "ship has sailed" with Kongbo is completely fallacious. The only prospect we've been actively recruiting to this point for which the ship has sailed is Mecole Hardman. We are in it for everyone else.

Stop lying to yourself cause you're scared about being potentially disappointed on NSD if the kid doesn't sign with us.

stop putting so much faith in crystal balls they can change at anytime.
Its like putting faith in a green light staying green.

Did you not read the rest of what I wrote?

I'm relying on more than the last few crystal balls. Everything about his recruitment says we lead.

D4H is correct. Kongbo is very likely to still be part of this class. His decommitment was one of pure respect, no ugliness involved. Door is still open there. We started recruiting others like Woods and Bailey harder, but the door is still open.

Also, I mean this in all due respect, but if you don't know who Larry is, and you still think there are blue shirt candidates when it has been said multiple times on here that there are no blue shirt candidates remaining in this class, then you need to educate yourself a little more...

First of all, I am not "scared of being disappointed". And I don't buy this "family felt" BS. "It's been reported" By who?

Call me nuts, but when a recruit (HS, Juco, whatever) commits to us, and reopens, he wants to be somewhere else. That kind of wishy washy stuff tells me the player may be just as indecisive on the field. Forget his precious star rating, and forget any highlights.

Going back a few years, If a Jalen Ramsey, Adoree Jackson, or even a Derrick Henry had committed and backed out, I would feel the same way about them.

And all three of those guys have been playing football since youth league. Kongbo has not been playing that long, according to his profile. By the time he gets experienced, it could be time for him to get drafted. He may be way over-rated.

I want great players, but I also want great players that definitely WANT to be Vols. Why waste our time signing one that wants to be somewhere else when you can get someone else that wants to be here? Maybe what you are saying is true, and I got him way wrong, but I don't think so.

And I am still waiting for someone to name one Tennessee great that backed out and recommitted. Until that name is dropped, I am leery of this one.

I'm not going to worry about it until signing day, but I did the numbers yesterday and we'll be fortunate to finish in the Top 15. More likely around 18-20 on 247. Rivals 13-15.

First, just a side note, remember this kid is not originally from America. His exposure to universities is not the same as ours. As his recruitment went on, he got more opportunities. It also sounds like the word commitment means a lot to him. He did not decommit because he wanted to go somewhere else definitely, or because he didn't like the Vols. He decommitted because he and his parents did not believe it was acceptable or respectful to go on visits to other schools when you are committed to a school. Thus, he decommitted.

Honestly, I wish more players would take this approach. I do not like our commits taking other visits, and want a player to be solid to their school. Yes, even when it's other schools. I personally respect how and why he decommitted.

So maybe don't commit until you are sure? That would seem to be the most acceptable and respectful approach. Also I have seen the Congo connection and being in the top 4, still I would give us a 25% shot at best, not the 75% that a lot of you are feeling.

I don't like to play the percentage game. I'm just saying, there was no foul play here in this decommitment, and that means a lot. I'd love to have him in the class, but honestly, I'd rather have Dickerson, Brown or Warrior if it came down to it.

Not really. Ole Miss was in his top 4 and he's never visited there so I think we can safely assume he's not going there. That gives us a 50/50 shot. :)

I am well aware that Kongbo was born and raised in Africa. And he played well up in British Columbia. I have no doubt that physically he could be a superior athlete.

Kongbo may be a beast, but even if he has a 4 star rating, the real question is his IQ for the game. Most of the players on the board are names recruiting followers have heard of for three or four years because they were getting experience at the HS level here. Kongbo, if memory serves, was a basketball player who started playing football some time after moving to Canada.

My main concern is he seems to be, since Butch Jones came here, project player number 3. The first, Woody Quinn, was a volleyball player turned TE. That did not work out. The second, Jakob Johnson, is still here and has some tools, but is yet to establish himself in competing for a starting spot.

If we are only taking 20 this year, it just seems an odd time for another project player with less experience. Like I said, If Butch is going to rein him in, I hope you are right about him. I hope he is JJ Watt, Julius Peppers, and Reggie White rolled up in one body. Because if he isn't, we will be wondering who we gave up for him.
