Predicting AP Top 5 as of Monday 2/10

They wanted Auburn and Bama 1 vs 2. I’m shocked Duke didn’t drop outside the top 4 and let Florida and Tennessee move up. Maybe we would be #4 instead of Florida had we beat them by 31!
Thanks to the coaches putting Bama first it’s 1 vs 1!

Your surprise surprises me. Blue blood w the best player in the country, down conference year or not, isn’t taking much of a hit against the second best team in that conference on, especially the road.
The second-best team in their conference was not even freaking ranked in the AP until they beat Duke.

Being the second-best team in the SEC, Big Ten, Pac10 heck the MAC means something. Being the second best in the ACC this year is nothing. College basketball is a gunfight. Duke Has an AK the rest of the the ACC brought knives. Clemson just brought the biggest knife and caught Duke between reloads.

The worst 2 teams in the SEC have 10 and 12 losses respectively. The next worst in the SEC is 14. There are 9 teams in the SEC with 12 wins or less..a lot less like 5 for Miami and 9 for NC State. Miami has one win against an actual college team their other 4 wins were vs JC's in disguise. They have a win against team that does not even have a full freaking name...Presbyterian is part of a name man.... and their mascot is the Blue Hose.. this writes itself. Presbyterian Blue Hose.

FWIW, I'm going to add one more thing to this discussion
The AP voters, for better or worse, often look at overall records.
Given that you have,

Auburn 21-2
Alabama 20-3
Florida 20-3
Duke 20-3
Tennessee 20-4
Houston 19-4

They don't just go on record or anything, but at lot of the times I've noticed it be the deciding factor when ranking close teams.
💥 Boom! 💥
First correct ranking! Congratulations.👏

Don’t forget the Big West. UC Irvine and UC San Diego both have 20-4 records. UCI has won at Northern Iowa by 20 and beat one of those MAC teams, Kent State, normally not notable, but they did it by holding them to 39 points. They also won at UCSD. UCSD is a little more impressive resume-wise. They lost at San Diego St by 5. Still a loss but SDSU is solid. They beat Toledo (another MAC team and better than Kent St) by 35, and their biggest win is at Utah State, who only has 3 losses. They also won at UCI. It’ll still be a one bid league, as the league just isn’t strong enough to support 2 teams, but I sure wouldn’t count want to see one of those teams in the first round as an 11 or 12 seed. I know you just used MAC to slight the ACC but it just so happened they both played upper half MAC teams. I like your knife-AK analogy. Don’t by knocking the Blue Hose though (like pantyhose?). They actually made the tournament once if I recall correctly. No wait, I think that was their women’s team. Scratch that. Go ahead and make fun.

Technically Clemson was 3rd in the ACC, which makes it worse. They were tied with Louisville and Louisville owns the tiebreaker due to their head-to-head win. Clemson beat UNC last night so now they're a half-game up.

Agreed they’ll put up a fight but if we attack inside it’ll open up the outside shots and if we stick around 20 good 3s we will shoot well. We do need to avoid the occasional defensive lapses we had the first half last game, which led to some open 3s. The second half they stopped shooting 3s. I do think our legs were a little tired from the Auburn game but that could just be me looking for an excuse. I say we win by 14. 78-64.

Edit: I sure wouldn’t count on a favorable whistle.
Not trying to make this a gotcha moment, and point out a wrong prediction, but they torched us from 3 again with the same game plan they used in Knoxville. Penetrate, draw, dish to shooters when help comes. We never adjusted again. But I’m just an amateur who loves the Vols! Hope we shoot better against Vandy Saturday. Could you imagine what it would feel like to have Kentucky and Vandy sweep us?

It’s all good. I was flat out wrong. I thought it was a fluke the first time but it turns out they are just a horrible matchup for us. If we play them again we have no choice but to play straight up, no helping off your man, and hope we can stop them enough to win.

I'd probably give it to Tennessee. They have more quality wins at this point.

But, I believe, beyond what occurs the rest of the year, this where the SEC tourney will matter.

Personnally, I think the committee is going to do everything they can to have Houston/Purdue/Michigan State.....anyone else from outside the SEC get a #1 seed to avoid having one conference having 3, #1 seeds. If it's at all possible to do with a straight face.

I really don't care. One of the things that sucks is that even if Florida were the #1 overall seed (in theory), they still are going to have to travel somewhere as there is no tournament site anywhere close to the state. As I stated earlier though, I don't care about seed, I care about bracket.
How’s that conspiracy theory that the SEC won’t have three #1 seeds looking after the selection committee revealed their top 16 today?

The year ain't over yet. Everyone will lose at least once more before the season ends (i think auburn/alabama split). Then everyone, but one, will lose in the SEC tournament. That's at a minimum.

Does Houston, Purdue, St. John's lose again?

My point was they would do it only if they had no choice. The way things are playing out, the rest of the country is giving the committee no choice.

Well sure, the metrics speak for themselves. That was my point: if three SEC teams deserve #1 seeds, three SEC teams will get #1 seeds. Heck, if Duke stumbles down the stretch it could be four.
