FWIW, I'm going to add one more thing to this discussion
The AP voters, for better or worse, often look at overall records.
Given that you have,

Auburn 21-2
Alabama 20-3
Florida 20-3
Duke 20-3
Tennessee 20-4
Houston 19-4

They don't just go on record or anything, but at lot of the times I've noticed it be the deciding factor when ranking close teams.
The end of this season is going to be wild. As of right now (still work to do for all teams of course), it appears UF, Bama and UT are battling for 1 or 2 1-seed slots. UF has the easiest remaining schedule, Bama the hardest but Bama and Florida play the week after we play Bama. Those 2 games are huge for sorting the 1 seeds out. Of course, this is assuming Auburn and Duke take up 2 spots. There’s also the chance someone from behind the SEC trio catches up. Houston would be most likely but they need help.

Putting seed talk aside, I’m looking forward to revenge week for UT. We really need to go 2-0 this week and avenge those 2 losses that shouldn’t have happened. As long as we keep taking smart shots we will win and win easily.

AP has their favorites and they never seem to hide it.

Vols went 2-0 top 15 win and blowout road win
Houston went 2-0 and one was a road win

Somehow though even with Auburn going 1-1 & Duke going 1-1 both teams were dropped a spot...

It's hilarious that both Tennessee and Kentucky dropped a single spot after their respective weeks. Kentucky got blitzed by both Ole Miss and Arkansas (the latter at home), but sure, that makes sense.

This doesn't really matter in the end, but I definitely didn't expect us to drop a spot. I thought #3 or #4 would make sense, but I didn't see Duke only dropping one despite losing to an unranked team on the road.

I kinda like we got dropped the more I think about it. Now we can play with a bit of a chip on our shoulder. Something to prove and whatnot.

Nothing will come easy in Rupp, we may win, but it will be close. Dont see the line being more than 3. We will have to guard the 3 point shot better this time around. But it is safe to say we will not shoot 45 3s this time around. They got Butler back which will help them defensively some, but we gotta go down hill and make them defend the rim. Should be a great game tomorrow night in Rupp. Hope we get a good whistle tomorrow night. The joint will be jumping they really want to sweep our butt.

Thing is this poll wont really mean much for a few more weeks as UT plays Kentucky this week, Bama plays Auburn 2 more times. By the end of the season it will be hard for more than 3-4 SEC teams to be in the top 10 simply because they play each other. UT, Florida and one of either Auburn/Bama have the best chance to remain in the top 5 based on what they have left to play.

Florida has pretty much went through its gauntlet already with only @bama at end of season left as one they wont be favored in. Maybe 1 more loss best case?

UT has Kentucky and A&M on the road and Bama at home left. 1-2 losses best case?

Auburn has Bama twice and Kentucky and A&M on the road. until proven otherwise I give them 1-2 losses worst case. Best case they sweep.

Bama gets Auburn twice play UT on the road and host Florida. They also have to see Kentucky and missou. I see 3 losses in that stretch.

But the AP poll is kinda nuts.. the SEC even beating itself up still stands above because we owned OOC.... There are gonna be teams that will be in the top 25 this week with 7-8 losses. There will be 7 or more loss teams getting 1 seeds in the tourney this year..

UT just has to get no more than 2 losses the rest of regular season and advance at least to the semi-finals in the SEC tourney to lock down a 1 seed. But some crazy stuff could happen.

Bama Sweeps Auburn but loses 2-3 other games.
Auburn Sweeps Bama but loses 2-3 other games.
Kentucky goes hogwild and Sweeps their remaining schedule beating UT, Bama and Auburn. And Auburn Bama split their series.
Florida cant really cause much chaos as they only have the road game against Bama and A&M left as top 10 games.
A&M on the other hand could probably cause the most chaos as they play UT, Florida and Auburn.

This season is gonna be wild.
Put your phone away and call for an adult to come wipe you.
