Prediction Thread: What Will Oregon's Punishment Be?

Even ASU's best coaches in history have never had a single top 10 recruiting class. obviously the location isnt' all that enticing for recruits. california kids like to stay in california. hate to be self serving, but cal would be the #1 benefactor if oregon goes down.

No. Washington and USC would both be larger benefactors.

I think he'll get leniency for three reasons. For one, the compliance department apparently didn't find anything wrong with him doing this, because they signed off on everything and did it using school checks. Secondly, I think he might get a bit of a break since he had only been a head coach for 2 years. And let's face it-Oregon will want to retain him because he's a damn good coach.

You make a great argument for the dreaded LOIC. By your logic the compliance department was involved with CCK when they decided to have Willy produce some old recruiting information to justify the 25K payment. That is not what you want. If I'm an Oregon fan, I'm calling for Kelly to bow out and take full responsibility.

USC? they only have 15 scholorships available. why would they benefit? as for UW for all the positive press sarq has gotten they still can't even keep their best talent in state.

They won't be limited in their scholarships forever. If Oregon goes down, Washington could take control of PNW recruiting. They're on the rise. The same can't be said for Cal.

the amount of players that oregon has landed that USC wanted you can count on two fingers.

they can get every great pnw player and still never get top-10 recruiting classes. i love how you are on the rise if you go from sucking to mediocrity. cal is an established program with brand new facilities. there is a reason why cal has outrecruited UW for years.

They've gone from winless in Ty's last year to the winner of a decent bowl game in two years. That's being on the rise. Cal, on the other hand...

You sound just like my Ohio St buddy did a couple of months ago. Kelly is gone.

and their on the rise season is one game better than tedford's worst season ever. congrats

and if recruits see the programs that way why has cal kicked UWs butt recruiting wise and regurally landed the top washington talent?

Basic math is tough! Tedford's worst is 5 wins. UW won 7 last year, 2 years after winning zero.

Blackmon, Thomas, Wallace, Johnstone, Yrurteagoyena, Lyerla are 6 I can think of...from this year's class.

blackmon at best was a last second want by SC. they never went after him hard.

thomas you have a point, but SC wanted him for defense which he didn't want to play.

lyerla is an oregon native.

wallace is hard to say.

johnstone was a backup plan

you confuse "offers" with legit interest.

Tressel was in a way better standing at Ohio State than Kelly is at Oregon. Kelly is good as gone. Oregon will stand by him as long as they think it keeps them from looking guilty. As soon as they realize heads are going to roll no matter what excuse they use, Kelly will be packing his over sized play cards and take his talents to unemployment.

If I was a Duck fan, I would fly south for football season for the next 3-5 years after the punishment.

Maehlman, we will accept you as you are. You can be a VFL now.

Look at who they've had since Kush. I still maintain that ASU is a good hire away from being consistently legit. Whether or not they will do it is another matter entirely, and I'm not sure I'd buy that they will make a good hire.

SC is still on limited schollies. Couple things working against the northern division teams here... One is reduced visits to SoCal. Two is, as droski pointed out, the Oregon and Washington schools have all had a tough going for many years trying to keep the elite talent in state... Though I do think if you compiled Oregon and Washington's best in any given year it would amount to a fairly solid recruiting class. But it seems like 80% of them end up going to California or out east.

Oregon going down won't help anyone else in the Pac-10. They were more of a thorn in the side of USC as far as recruiting high level talent rather than a true challenger.

snyder was an excellent coach, got them within one play of winning the national championship, and still couldn't recruit well. he actually had better classes at cal despite teh success not coming till his last year. erickson has been successful pretty much everywhere else but asu and that has to mean something.

oregon and cal go head to head for recruits regurally. same cannot be really said for usc and oregon. ucla could benefit also, but they seem to have their head up their arse.

They might get it out of there soon. I'd bet Neuheisel won't be their coach in '12.
