Preds playoffs

Is it me or were the post game announcers incredibly anti-predators? I couldn't believe that Keith Jones said, "Hopefully the Canucks win the game." Also, Roenick looked like he was about to have a stroke when the Preds tied it up late in the third.

To add to this, I just watched Barry Melrose's take on the game and he said, "If I'm Vancouver I'm feeling good heading into Nashville. Home ice means nothing, and we're going in there to steal 2." Really Barry? Home ice means nothing? No wonder this clown got fired after a month with the Bolts.....

All right, let's clear some things up from some of the posts I've seen.

1. Rinne had a great year. But he's not the best. Tim Thomas was a better netminder on a better team and will probably take home the Vezina.

2. I didn't catch the game last night, but pretty sure they had local coverage. It should be no surprise the announce team was acting like homers.

3. Home ice doesn't matter.

The coverage was not local, it was national and the comments didn't even come from the actual game announcers. These were the postgame guys on Versus. Pekka right now is the best goaltender in the league. And yes home ice does matter....

No he isn't and no it doesn't. Your Predatard is showing.

However, that's terrible if those guys were saying that.

Who's better than Pekka right now? Who is carrying his team more than Pekka? Your a loon if you think home ice doesn't matter. For a team like Nashville that is so defensively oriented and relies on matchups, it does matter.

Hell of a game last night...Glad we're coming back to Nashville tied up.....Rinne is the freaking man....He's in beast mode right now..

How many games has Tampa Bay won at home in the playoffs this year? Why didn't Detroit win the Stanley Cup the year the Penguins beat them in their joint for game 7? How did Edmonton make a run all the way to the finals several years ago as an 8 seed?

I already told you Tim Thomas will probably win the Vezina. Pay attention.

Tim Thomas is not outplaying Pekka right now....obviously the home teams don't always win, but to say it doesn't matter at all is completely idiotic.

if you take Rinne's performance in the last three games and nothing else, you are correct. However, if you look at the entire body of work in the playoffs, Thomas has been better.

Also, I agree with dooz, home ice is nice, but it isn't that big of a deal

Rinne wasn't very good for much of the first round. He's turned it on lately though.

Rinne did let in a couple softies against the Ducks, but a bunch of those goals Pekka had no chance on. Thomas played well, but he didn't have to face 5 guys that were in the top 30 in points scored this year. Montreal had one guy in the top 60 in points scored this year. Big difference...

No, the two of us agree that you are wrong.

It's a debatable point, but answer this: if it doesn't matter, then would a GM, coach and players prefer to be on the road, or at home for a deciding game 7? That's rhetorical. And if it really doesn't matter, why would the vegas line change depending on home ice in game 7?
Just sayin. I heard the same point made as you heard on tv, but those guys aren't always right.

Look at the records for home teams in the last few years of playoff hockey. I guarantee you there is nowhere near as big an advantage as you probably think there is.

I don't care what they prefer. That's not what we are talking about. The question was does it matter and it doesn't.

Also, an argument could be made for Niemi right now as well. Wings will have some work to do.

Maybe the home team is inferior. Preds lost many home playoff games against San Jose and others because they didn't have the team. I do agree that its not to the degree as in other sports, and I think some has to do with referees. Umpires, fb and bball referees feel a lot of pressure from the home crowd and succumb, often. Hockey, not so much. Again, jmo.

Ya I'm sure San Jose's 2-0 series record has nothing to do with their home ice advantage. Absolutely nothing...

It has more to do with Detroit playing flat for about 5 and a half periods to start the series. I mean, look at the Boston/Montreal series. Nashville beat Anaheim twice in Anaheim. Detroit thrashed Phoenix twice in Phoenix, etc. etc.

They've out played Detroit in every aspect of the game. They'd still have a 2-0 lead if they were playing in Russia.

That's not really my point. Anyone can be beaten in any rink, but to say it means nothing? That's just not true at all. You don't think the crowds can give that extra bit of energy when the home team needs it? You don't think having the last change matters? Home ice matters, even if it does just provide a small edge.
