Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

I think most of us started the season in the hole by not having Haaland as early as others. Still plenty of time to make up some points if we choose the right differentials. I need either Rashford or Bruno to do something midweek in order to climb some.
Pretty sure you’ll be passing me this week. I made some changes for the following weeks to optimize based off the way the second half of the season has been going. We will see. I need to pay more attention to double game match weeks though.

Yeah, it was nuts. Summer will be a balancing act, will be lots of sales. I know they have some advertising partners they are lining up that will be a boost of income, and then with the amortization on long contracts they’ve been doing will help too. For instance, Enzo Fernandez was 120-130M, something like that, but his yearly FFP impact is only like 11M a year I’ve read. Most of their sales this winter and some from the summer were like this. So they’ve spread that out nicely. We will see though, lots of risk if the players don’t pan out 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’d expect Ziyech, Pulisic, RLC, CHO, and Gallagher to be moved. I could see Havertz being moved for the right offer and Mount. Mount poor run of form has come at a bad time with him locked in negotiations with new ownership. I could see Boehly moving him with Nkunku on the way.

Those are definitely the ones that will be leaving. We apparently were going to listen to offers on Pulisic this January until he got injured before the window opened. It’s really a shame that 3 out of those 5 you listed all had injuries that derailed their time at the club. Pulisic with his hamstring and then both RLC and CHO with Achilles injuries. RLC and CHO never quite looked the same and while Pulisic still had spurts he just can’t stay healthy. I’d like to keep Havertz for another year. Really think he can find his form again once he’s not playing out of position. Problem is, we’ve got multiple people that can play his “best” position. Honestly Mount kind of falls into this bucket too but I hope we can find an extension agreement with him. One other one I could see moving is Koulibaly. He was one of the best defenders in Series A for years but we bought him a couple years too late. He’s really had trouble adjusting to the speed of the PL. The way Badiashile has been playing he’s become expendable.

Sounds like Man City may be in a little bit of trouble. Point deduction potentially? Of course the investigation has taken 4 years to uncover 100 violations or whatever, so it may be a season or 2 before we see anything (if they actually do anything that is and don’t chalk it up to admin errors or something).

We likely don’t hear the results of those charges for another couple years. It’s 10 years worth of charges so the FA sure has been gathering information for a while. Seen various reports that City won’t be able to appeal any sanctions that do happen.

Damn. Been a weird morning I didn’t even hear about the earthquake. Atsu was with Chelsea for a few years but never appeared for the team, then went on to play with Newcastle. Him and 9 players and multiple staff were stuck.

Edit: latest report saying Atsu has been found alive.

Thoughts on him taking over the USMNT?
I honestly don’t know a lot about him besides he had a good bit of success Salzburg. Didn’t watch any of their games though and didn’t get to watch a lot of Leeds either. Do you think he’d be a good candidate?

How is the heck did Sheff Utd not score there in the 29th minute? Some poor finishing.

He was decent while under the RB umbrella at NYC and Salzburg and fully in the RB system and players. He didn’t last long in my opinion at Leipzig because that club grew attached to how Naggelsman ran things and they wanted to switch to that. He is a good man manager from what I read, but don’t think he is our answer.

The USMNT needs a strong hire pretty soon in order to give them time to prepare for next years Copa America.
