Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

I have an idea. I’ll let you have Werner back for the low low price of just sending Palmer to the Spurs.
He’s a frustrating player to watch, huh? Haven’t watched him much at Spurs but at Chelsea he continuously got himself into the right spots and his pace threat was helpful to create space, but he just always struggled for that final piece of the puzzle.

I still very much enjoyed him on the squad though. He was always included by the Chelsea media team in promo stuff because he was just a super down to earth goofy dude, even when he was trying to be serious. Teammates loved him too. I also remember a quote after he left where a reporter was setting him up for a sound bite to **** on Chelsea and/or the fans for their frustrations about his game, and instead he responded with an honest answer along the lines of how “supporters pay money to see us play and I wasn’t good enough”, “I’d do the same”, etc.

Long story short: frustrating player but one I had a lot of respect for and enjoyed him at the club.

I like him, that was more heat of the moment, but of course I would love to have Cole. Today was frustrating though.

He had two opportunities with only Onana in his way and both times he hit it directly into his chest. Then a pass that split two that both would have had a great look at goal if delivered properly.

Timo has the worst case of the yips I’ve ever seen. Does everything right but finish. I hate it for him too because he seems like such a nice guy.

If Son is healthy and starts, it’s probably 5 or 6 nil. Most of United’s players looked completely disinterested in putting forth any more than the minimum amount of effort. As much as I’d like to see him stay, I don’t see how Ten Hag survives much longer.

Still a great win for the good guys.

Best manager available in my mind.

I'm a big fan of the Overlap, and I couldn't get over Jamie Carragher saying he believed the English manager needed to be English.

You're telling me if Pep decided he wanted the England job that he should be looked over for Eddie Howe? Just because he's English?

Silly if you ask me...

Read a similar quote from Neville about wanting an English manager. He said England needed to find its “true identity” that’s “unique to English managers.”

Idk, I’m obviously not English and I’m sure there are some underlying currents to this sentiment that we aren’t privy to but I agree with you, hire the best candidate. Who cares where they are from.

He also mentioned that there were “outstanding English candidates” available and I was sitting there while I was reading it like, “huh, who?” I cant think of a single one that could be better than Tuchel.

I don’t know that it’s especially crazy, as lots of other nations seem to also always have something of a “national style” and a native of their country managing the team.

The other thing with Neville and Carragher is that they both played in that window of time in the early-mid 00’s where they had a non-English manager, so maybe they have some deeper insight into the problems that may have arisen.

I also don’t think being non-English should be disqualifying though, and there aren’t exactly a lot of well respected English managers currently looking for work. They’re all too busy managing in (but NEVER winning) the Premier League.

They’ve played 8 games for far and have finished with ten men in 3 of them. Gotta sort that out or they’ll be nowhere close to the title this year.

I hope not, but maybe. We’ll know more in early December. Brutal stretch coming up for them over the next several weeks.

Agree with this.

I also don't understand the club front office for the life of me.

VVD, Mo and Trent playing out the final months of their deals, with no extensions or transfer plans appearing anywhere (other than Trent being linked on a free transfer to Real Madrid, which would be disastrous).

Seems like it would be a major distraction, especially for a first year manager.

TAA going to Real Madrid has been a talking point for at least a couple of years if I remember correctly. Not that he is or isn’t but just that Real Madrid is a huge admirer and they have been waiting on his contract to get towards the end and then they were gonna go for him.

It’s going to be interesting to see what yall do overall. TAA is the one you can’t lose in my opinion. Still pretty young and at the top of his career. Salah and VVD both have some years left in them but definitely on the backside of their careers. It would be a blow to the leadership and squad to lose 2 out of the 3, let alone all of them. For what it’s worth, my guess is only Salah leaves.
