Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Geez. That was a demolition by Liverpool. They’re going to end up running away with the league this season.

In other news…another glorious 0-0 win for Everton.

Can confirm. I was there. Surprised there wasn’t talk of calling this one off like the Derby a couple weeks ago. I think there were some gusts approaching 60 MPH.
I bet that was an experience!

I didn’t realize until the broadcast this morning that Everton completed the sale of the club. What’s the current consensus among the Evertonians on the new ownership? I’m sure most are at least very happy to get out from under the former owner.

I’m still taking a wait and see approach. Everyone was over the moon ten or so years back when we were last sold, and we know how that turned out. I’m glad it ended up being these guys instead of the other American group whose purchase plan has basically been revealed to be a Ponzi scheme.

As I understand it, the club are now technically debt free, as the new owner has paid off our creditors (including the money owed on the stadium build) in a manner similar to refinancing your mortgage. Whether the extract income from the club to pay for those, or just take it in the form of equity remains to be seen. Regardless, the terms will be much more favorable, and we’re in a significantly better place financially than we were a week ago.

Will still have to be careful to stay within PSR regulations because we have some bad contracts still on the books and relatively low income by top tier PL standards. We’re sorely lacking in hotels and women’s teams that we can just sell to ourselves to balance the books Chelsea-style. Allegedly we will be able to spend at least SOME money in January though, which is good.

Well, here’s to hoping it’s the start of a brighter future. It’d be nice to see Everton have a bit of a resurgence in due time.

As good as Maresca has been for Chelsea, the only real complaint I have is his sub choices.. or lack there of. Fulham started running circles around us around the 70 minute mark and we made one sub, and left our gassed wingers and defensemen in the game to take out Jackson who had been stretching Fulhams defense thin all match. Fulham then go on to score 2 in the final 10 min plus stoppage time to win. That loss is on Maresca. Still miles ahead of where we should be so can’t complain too much.

Of course, I bet on Bruno, to get an assist OR a goal, +100 and he gets 2 yellows/ a red, 2 minutes into the 2nd half.

Still a somewhat bad loss

I think it’s a bad loss just because of the form we’ve been in and having a lead into the 80th minute of the match, but not a bad loss in terms of quality opponent. Fulham has been playing well the past 4-5 weeks or so. Two more experienced teams in Arsenal and Liverpool weren’t able to beat them either in the last few weeks but they at least salvaged a point rather than a loss.

Since Gareth Bale retired, I've been trying to find a new favorite player. I gave Cody Gapko a shot, but he doesn't have that killer in him, that my favorite guy needs. Now, Alexander Isak seems to have that, so I'm proclaiming Isak my new favorite player. I guess it helps when that player wins 2 bets for me, in less than 5 minutes into the match. Anytime goal, +125 and goal by header, +1200
