Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

I admit I know absolutely nothing about soccer..............but I guess I'm good luck

But before the season started, a co-worker from London told me to pick a Premiere League team since he's now a Titan fan.

I took a couple of on-line "quizzes"(all gave the same answer) and did a quick history dive and picked:

Nottingham Forrest.

You gotta have a team to support to get bit by the Premier League bug.
Looks like you got the better deal between you and your coworkers].

Does anyone actually like the new UCL format? As a LFC supporter, I'm still trying to figure out if LFC will get the winner of 9 vs 24 or if they'll get the lowest ranked survivor from the 8 play-in games. I assume they can't play an English team until the quarterfinal round? Are the top 8 guaranteed to have the return leg of the round of 16 at home? Talk about an unnecessarily complicated and un-inspiring competition.

There's so many games that the stakes for any single game are much lower. For example, City have played terribly this year, and yet, they still might qualify for the play-in game.

The one change I do like about this format is that teams can longer “fail upward” by going out in the group stage. In the old format, City would likely have ended up dropping down to Europa League after finishing third in their group. Then they’d be in an easier competition where they likely run roughshod over everyone, and backdoor their way into CL qualification next season, even though they are far from guaranteed qualifying on league position. That part is good. The rest of it, especially the part where everyone doesn’t play the same schedule, sucks.

I feel like the Spanish teams not named Madrid or Barca have mastered this strategy. (Sevilla, Athletico, Villareal, etc.)

The top half of the table is so tight right now. From 5th to 10th it’s only a 5 point difference. Difference between 10th and 4th only a 7 point difference. Qualifying for a European competition (any of the 3) is still in play for over half the league with ~15 games left to play. Would be a bad time to stumble for a few games if you are one of the teams in the top half. Could stumble from Top 4 or Top 5 to middle of the table in just 2-3 games.

What competition does 15th qualify for?
