Preseason top 25?

Hey does any one have a clue where the vols will probably land come football preseason rankings? Also any freshman looking to make a big impact? Thanks.

Yeah this is pathetic. a couple seasons like the one we just had and we might be looking for Br"U"ce to coach football and basketball

We probably won't be top 25 preseason, but if we get off to a good start we could be top 10 after our first 3 or 4 games. California will be 10-15, Florida top 5. On the other hand, we could dig ourselves into a major hole.

I disagree. Because of the tradition of Tennessee football with CPF and the explosiveness of SEC football, even considering the previous seasons meltdown...and taking into consideration coach Cut and his changes hes made both obvious and those yet to show...I'm feelin the Vols will be about 12th.....maybe as high as 10th. Yes its early and a gut feelin but I know Tennessee gets respect because they play tough games out of conference and they have awesome defensive speed.

10th or 12th? No way.

Maybe we sneak in at 24 or 25, but I just can't imagine that many voters ranking us that high after a 5-6 season.

absolutly no way will we be 10-12th, i'll be totally shocked if we are ranked in the 24-25 range. You know we lost to Vandy last year right?

I think Dan is right in one sense in that we will get some votes just because we're Tennessee. Whether that's enough to get us into the top 25, I have my doubts.

Penn State, Oklahoma, LSU and USC didn't get some votes when they were down just because of who they are, though.

We are going to have to earn everything.

I'd go with the 20's, or else just outside the top-25. It will take work, but like always, we and the rest of the country will know after 3-4 games just where we stand, and if the "nay-sayers" or the "last-year-was-a-flukers" were right.

Hey guys, lets not forget that we finally have an offensive coordinator again this year. We've been missing one for several years. I think that Coach Cutcliffe's re-hiring is enough to bring us into the rankings. Probably in the top 20 somewhere

If we are 3-0 after beating Florida, then we should be ranked between 14-16.

Just out of respect for what we've accomplished for the past decade (with the exception of last year) and the obvious physical talent we have, I could see us in the 18-25 range.

it wouldn't suprise me if we're ranked, but i don't think we should be. we basically have the same team coming back that went 5-6. on a year to year basis, there is no reason why we should be ranked in the pre season. Now are we capable of being a top 15 or top 10 team, yeah. but i think this year, we shouldn't get a ranking because we're TN. If we do, it will be just because of that....

If we're 4-2 or better after the 1st 6 games, i could see is in the top 20 or 15.

Thanks for the links. Quite a difference in the two. Fox has us 9th ?!? and we aren't even in the top 25 for rivals.

It is not the pre-season polls I am worried about. I'm more interested in the post-season one.

I agree with that assessment. Tennessee has the POTENTIAL to have a pretty good year but had the potential last year, too, with essentially the same personnel and the season was quite poor. There would be no reason to rank you preseason this year. You need to prove that you can live up to that potential before you get many votes.

The game with Florida will probably tell the story.

we'll know before that...that game with Cal will tell a lot...i hate to put a lot on the first game, but this year, we start out with a pretty solid team, at home. If we come out and play well, i'll feel a lot better about the rest of the season. the FL and LSU games probably won't tell us as much about our team as it will tell UF and LSU fans about theirs. they both come up here and will be huge road game for both teams. And i'm almost positive that both will be favored against us even on the road.

Us aspiring on potential this year will be quite different that LSU and UF trying to live up to expectations.
