US should make all its own computer chips instead importing chips from Taiwon and elsewhere.

So Taiwan hosts the foundries for chip production. You use their “process library” when your designers design new chips. Which a huge portion of that still happens in North America.

The fact is when the foundries went offshore they were nasty production facilities generating huge amounts of toxic industrial waste. That’s gotten better over time but they still produce a large amount of toxic industrial waste. In time more will come back onshore but there is a valid reason they went to Taiwan. They were willing to host those facilities when nobody else wanted them.
