President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

are companies typically building infrastructure they don't think is needed?

should the government only approve of infrastructure which provides long term employment?

The points you're making in opposition aren't good. Do you have anything salient?
I literally posted a link from the Canadian side as to why XL wasn't needed.

I think that employment IS a consideration when a private entity is looking to engage in a project of this size. Balancing the economic impacts with the environmental risks is important. It's a cornerstone of Roosevelt conservation. Don't protect it all, but don't wreck it all.

TC was the only group that stood to make out on this. Why should the US give up its land, take the risk of environmental damage, AND not benefit in a substantial economic way? This deal isn't in our national interest. Not sure, other than it's some political deal now, why Trump would offer to let them start back up. After all, energy is the largest driver of the trade deficit he keeps whining about and damn near tried to wreck our economy over. Hell, Nashville will see real tourism declines solely based on the fact he's ticked Canadians off enough to not visit.

Anything would if you inject cash into it. Doesn’t mean it’s sustainable and going to continue on.
Funding innovation is in our interest. Oil isn't gonna last forever and we are far too dependent on imports. Energy independence means being able to tell OPEC to screw off. You don't do that by riding oil and natural gas as your main horse forever. Keep our supply, work towards a mix of all of the above, and ideally go more nuclear. But wind, solar, hydro, etc works when used in the right places.

You fund the research and development. Same as we do with medicine and other technologies.

Funding innovation does not mean spending trillions of dollars that we dont have on projects with limited oversight...

Funding scam to give your political campaign indirect funds really doesn't help anyone. Over the next 200 years things will have to go to nuclear and other means, wind is stupid generally speaking, I see nothing wrong with solar to a degree but no reason to have taxpayers fund the bill.

If they have a viable product at 40 years into this, they should be self funded.

The government having to "Fund innovation" when the market refuses to, is a pretty good indication that the gov't is funding bad innovation.

The market is VERY good at funding good innovation.
