COVID changed me view on a lot of things. This very subject is a blind spot in their philosophy. There is no libertarian argument that I've seen stated to address fascism/corporatism. They are still hanging on to this idea that these are just private companies and private companies should be able to do whatever they want. But all of that changes once you have govt influencing or using coercion to influence these companies. This is not something I would have believed a few years ago. The rhetoric and actions we seen since Covid changed that.
I've been out of the loop thjs week watching SEC basketball and working late hours. So let me get this straight - a document has been uncovered that appears to be a signed memorandum of understanding that NATO was moving toward Ukraine being part of the coalition? Is this what I'm gathering? If so, that is provocative and would coincide with the large increase in Russia buildup.
The democratic media (MSM) is looking at an election wipeout for Democrats come November. The MSM is doing everything they can to cover for Potato Head Joe Biden & his inept administration. Joe Biden & his lack of leadership along with him having no active brain cells left to function normally is America's biggest threat. It sure as hell isn't freaking climate change.
Media fear economy, gas prices have Biden over a barrel
Somebody please come take that sweet old man by the arm and gently walk him off the stage.Biden today: Government spending did not have any effect on inflation
Biden in November: Stimulus checks caused inflation because people had money but the supply chain meant products were in short supply which drove up prices.
Idiot

Difficult to do - we forgo a “free” press when the govt starts passing judgement. We are failing to make a definite line between news and opinion. The "journalists" covering the news and protected by Constitutional right should have no protection against censorship. If you are given the privileges of the press, then it is an obligation to report fully, factually, honestly, and most of all without bias. Bias in the news is almost always lying by omission - which is basically censorship since it omits points of view. If we are talking opinion, then that's more like artistic expression, but the news media have swapped back and forth between opinion and news so much that nobody knows the difference. That's what we need to address - force journalists to include a "license" with stories - credentials as a reporter; and if they abuse the line between fact and opinion, strip credentials. We license other professionals and hold them to standards; time to do the same with news media.
I've always seen YouTube as entertainment regardless of the people expressing "expert" opinion, but they've muddied the boundaries. It's time to hold the internet to some standards of accountability. If you have people on a site providing information and it backfires, hold them liable for damages. If they want to show news from one perspective and fail to disclose they are not a news organization or an unbiased repository for news, then surely we have ways to limit access like the FCC should have or had with respect other broadcast media.

I understand the sentiment.True. However, why give the press unlimited freedom over constitutional rights and limit personal freedoms. We do actually have some limits on free speech - slander, libel, even "insurrection" (for some people). We also have government sponsored limits on the right to bear arms. I've argued a few times on VN that freedoms and rights come with responsibilities ... not everyone agrees, but responsible behavior is something that is inherently necessary for civility. I take it a bit personally that common folk have to toe the line that less common folk don't.
That is exactly what happened. From what I have been able to gather, this document and these talks surfaced around November or December of 2021.I've been out of the loop this week watching SEC basketball and working late hours. So let me get this straight - a document has been uncovered that appears to be a signed memorandum of understanding that NATO was moving toward Ukraine being part of the coalition? Is this what I'm gathering? If so, that is provocative and would coincide with the large increase in Russia buildup.
I disagree with the idea of giving a license to journalists. That is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment. So let me get this straight, just who do you think the govt will be giving a license to? People that will agree with their narrative or those that will challenge it?We are failing to make a definite line between news and opinion. The "journalists" covering the news and protected by Constitutional right should have no protection against censorship. Yeah, this entire paragraph is a train wreck, unfortunately. What you will end up doing at the very least is dragging a bunch of people into civil court for expressing a counter-narrative, and at worst making them political prisoners for that very action. You also discourage free speech that goes against the state or big corporations because people will have fear of repercussions... not repercussions for lying, but repercussions for telling the truth.I've always seen YouTube as entertainment regardless of the people expressing "expert" opinion, but they've muddied the boundaries. After what I've seen over the last 2 years, the last thing we need is this govt policing free speech.True. Don’t hate the source….When was this said? What context?
I think we have enough laws in this country. Really, it is time to start purging some of them.True.
