After what I've seen over the last 2 years, the last thing we need is this govt policing free speech.
Free speech abuse is not hurting anyone or a danger to anyone... other than the govt.
I think we have enough laws in this country. Really, it is time to start purging some of them.
I was very careful (at least I thought) to say that we don't necessarily need to do away with all licenses. With respect to licensing, almost every profession has licensure and standards - from blue collar jobs such as plumbers on up to that of doctors, lawyers, nurses, engineers, etc. It's not a new concept, and it is done with reason. If a journalist is accredited with privileges that gain him or her access to people and places not accorded the rest of us because the thought is that he or she will convey the information they find honestly and accurately, then there's no reason for journalists not to be held accountable by some licensing body.
And really, in the larger sense, licenses in these other fields should be re-examined. Why do we need licenses for barbers/hairdressers, to get married or to even have a business? I'm not saying we should get rid of them all, but we need to seriously consider purging a few of these requirements.
I see where the full interview is up on Rumble. I haven't watched it all. But Trump did say at the beginning that Dana White recommended he do an interview with them. I might post it here later.Wow, is this true? Is there another platform that has the interview? Republicans must take the congress and start the investigations into censorship. I think there is a multi-faceted censorship effort going on in America.
What gets me is the amount of people I know and that post on here who cannot form any original thoughts of their own. They simply only repeat what they hear on their preferred news outlets. It's rather sad. Especially when it's coming from supposedly "highly intelligent" individuals. You don't say? I've been on that campaign for a while now, yet I have conservatives and libertarians seeing nothing wrong with this censorship, ignoring the fact that there is clear evidence to suggest that the government/White House is working with these media outlets to memory hole and delete content that runs counter to their narrative... whether it is COVID or Ukraine/Russia.
We are living in a fascist/cartelist country where social media, Big Pharma, and others are terrorizing the people.
Maybe, but unless we nationalize these platforms, they still control what content they choose or choose not to post. It isn't really censorship. Now if they are advertising free speech and then censoring said speech, maybe you could get them for false advertising... but it's still not censorship under the law.People who can't handle an interview with a former president of the United States are cowards. Plain and simple.
Private companies are free to set their own rules?Maybe, but unless we nationalize these platforms, they still control what content they choose or choose not to post. It isn't really censorship. Now if they are advertising free speech and then censoring said speech, maybe you could get them for false advertising... but it's still not censorship under the law.
It is what it is. You don't have to like it, but private companies are still free to set their own rules.
Private companies are free to set their own rules?
So a restaurant owner can choose not to allow the health department in his or her restaurant? After all. It's a private business and they are free to set their own rules right?
Can a barber or hairstylist choose to open up a shop without being licensed by the state? It's a private business and they are free to set their own rules right?
What people like you and others are doing are picking and choosing what rules you are okay with based on your political views then claiming "private businesses can do what they want". Please stop being a hypocrite.
Now you are backtracking. You said "private businesses are free to set their own rules". So according to what you said a restaurant owner does not have to allow the health department into their restaurant and should be able to operate how they see fit without any interference from the government. The places you listed can refuse service to customers based on their rules. Have you never seen a "no shirts, no shoes, no service" sign? Government monitoring is not the same as setting rules that customers must follow.
It's funny, you keep insulting the intelligence of others when you're the one who clearly does not understand.
Also, you clearly don't know my political views. In no way am I being a hypocrite. This isn't about being a Republican or a Democrat (I'm neither), this is about what our laws clearly allow. IF companies like YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, or whatever were run by the government, you'd have a point about censorship. Since they are privately owned, the owners reserve the right to refuse service. It's a simple concept and one that is not hard to understand. You don't have to agree with it, but it is what it is.
Hell, @McDad is still pissed he can't go to Arby's nekkid.
No doubt we have far more laws than could ever be justified. That old "ignorance of the law is no excuse" is utter nonsense. Most people understand that killing another person or taking something that doesn't belong to you is wrong, but there's absolutely no way anybody could be aware of all the things he might do that could be illegal. It's worse because the law isn't simply something codified and in a book; every court decision is viewed as wisdom passed down from the gods and new precedent - in essence a law not written by a legislative body, but a law set by a body whose charter is not to make law but to judge according to established laws.
With respect to licensing, almost every profession has licensure and standards - from blue collar jobs such as plumbers on up to that of doctors, lawyers, nurses, engineers, etc. It's not a new concept, and it is done with reason. And this is the point that I have been talking about. It is clear that the govt is influencing or coercing these companies to censor certain material. Psaki said as much last summer. In a fascist/corporatist system, the govt doesn't have to own the media outlets. The govt and the media outlets work in concert with each other. The govt can also use the influence they have to circumvent the 1st Amendment by using them as their censor by proxy. I think @Weezer leans towards center-right, actually. I think he would be singing the same tune if this were Biden. You don't really think private businesses are free to set their own rules. You and others agree with the censorship of a former president of the United States. So go ahead and admit it. If they were doing it to the current president you would be singing a different tune and you know it.
Timing spin to CYA to those who don’t know any better. Simpletons believe Biden at this point. So Joe is blaming Feb's inflation #s on the Ukraine invasion and sanctions. The invasion began Feb 24 and the bulk of the sanctions occurred then or after.
The March #s is where we'll see the real first impact of these things.
Another lie from Team Biden
