President Trump's Cabinet?

Our educational goals are horribly misaligned as a society. We need to stop pretending that success is tantamount to receiving a college degree, and the Department of Education has only fanned the flames of this belief.

I think Germany's system is a good model, and its emphasis on vocational training is of particular relevance to the US. Unfortunately, there are factors far beyond funding and curriculum that produce poor outcomes in our educational system. Throwing more money at the problem does nothing to solve it.

I don't know how Betsy Devos got through.

We can thank Harry Reid for that.

There isn't really much of a defense for DeVos. She has no notable talents or relevant experience in the field of education. If Trump wanted a proponent of state-run education and/or school choice, there were plenty of better options.

And individual schools should control themselves with county input?

States needed Federal over sight for all of the same reasons counties needed state over sight and individual schools needed local district over sight.

Right down that rabbit hole you went. Just be honest and admit you believe the federal government knows best.

To the same degree that a state knows better than a county, and a county knows better than a town.

The federal government frequently knows best. The state often knows best. The county occasionally knows best. Sometimes the town knows best. There are times when the individual knows best.

Are you claiming the federal government never knows best?

This lady just bought a cabinet position from trump and the senators she paid off.

Does anyone honestly believe that she'd be anywhere near Washington, let alone the Secretary of Education position when the only qualification she could muster during her hearings was that of a "mentor"? She and her family dropped damn near $200,000,000 on GOP influence.

LOL, drain the swamp indeed. :eek:lol:

Is that why Pence had to cast the tie breaking vote? They must not have shared the 200 million with al the GOP senators

The republicans had a golden opportunity gift wrapped and presented to them on a silver platter. They could have voted down a universally recognized unqualified nominee and established their willingness to do what was best for the country even when it's not the "politically correct" thing to do. That would have been an ace up their sleeves for years to come. Instead they decide to send the message that they support the party line no matter what, even when everyone knows it is the wrong thing to do. They have elevated partisan politics another level for no reason. The democrats will now be able to point to this vote as proof. Stupid move by the republicans.

The fact is, she's such a terrible choice that despite her $100,000 handshakes and a GOP controlled Senate - it still took Pence.

This pales in comparison to not even holding hearings on a SCOTUS nominee, and yet they still held Congress. It will be forgotten quickly.

LOL, GOP is striking any Dem who criticizes Sessions record under Rule 19 (can't criticize another Senator) DESPITE it being a forum to discuss his qualifications for nomination.

Kangaroo court.

You made it sound like she bribed the entire GOP for a mere 200 million, not exactly a prestigious cabinet position, especially for a billionaire.

Kangaroo court you say?

How about discussion, as in valid discussion, on his qualifications. Leave the bickering and fingers in the eyes outside.

Discuss the merits of his qualifications. There is no good reason for mud slinging at these hearings. And you and I both know it will turn into mud slinging unless something was done to preempt it.

I think you misunderstand. They aren't being allowed to talk about his qualifications or discuss his merits. ZERO dissent is permitted, simply because the GOP is utilizing Rule 19. The Senate is protecting one of it's own, despite the Senate being there to discuss one of its own.

Complete sham.
