You know, on the bigger issue of whether it was "inappropriate" for the guy to have done it, I'd say this. He is perfectly within his rights to say that the president is lying about something. One can questino whether the use of such language by a sitting congressman is a little over the top, but he can say it.

Now, doing it during a speech to the Congress? I think that is where the problem lies. I can't say exactly where the line of decorum is, but I think a Congressperson shouting out "You lie" at the President, in that situation, is definitely crossing over it.

Pure genius on the subject:

At a separate event, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters that half the bill "will be paid for by squeezing excesses out of the system" by finding $500 billion in reduced waste, fraud, abuse and redundancy. The rest will be paid for in pay-as-you-go funding and cuts in other spending.
"Squeeze it out of the system, and that means out of the providers and the rest as well," she said.
She added that despite the price tag, there's no limit on the help people will receive.
"There's a cap on what you pay in in premiums. There's no cap on what you receive back," Pelosi added.

How could anyone see holes in any of this?

It also overshadowed a speech that included some of Obama's harshest attacks on his GOP critics to date, including a denunciation of "death panel" alarmists as liars — a veiled swipe at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — and a warning to Republicans who want to "kill" reform
Let me get this right. Obama can call people liars in his speech, but no one should dare to call him one?

Piss on that narcissistic idiot.

Enormous difference.

1) She is not President (Thank God).

2) She is not there giving a speech to Congress.

How is there a difference?

The President isn't our freakin' king. If he can sit up there and call a joint session of Congress to push HIS agenda, and in doing so sling mud and lie (which even the AP pointed out), then I'd say Wilson had every right to yell what he wanted to.

Obama isn't God no matter how much he wants to be.

How about members booing the President?

Exactly. Take a shot at someone not present to defend themselves.

He certainly deserves much respect.

I would characterize it more as: "Bash Obama first, just because he's Obama, and think second, if we are even going to bother to."

Its a tired gimick, and my sense is that the American people are seeing through the knee jerk, automatic gainsay approach, of the right. They are tired of the obstructionism for obstruction's sake, tired of the name calling, the half truths (or less), tired of the veiled racism, the manufactured fear, the reaching of the birthers, the emptiness of Palin's mind, the harshness of Hannity's rhetoric, the weak and ineffective sarcasm of Beck.

In short, the Republicans are all about bringing Obama down, rather than building the country back up. The strategy will not serve them well in 2010 or 2012.

The polls show one more thing the American people are tiring of rather quickly. Obama's BS.

Seriously? You're even getting a lot of Democrat opposition to this UHC garbage.

And let me say what's been said about 100,000 times already. Every time you try to do one of these, "Let me tell you what America is thinking" posts you fail miserably.

There's a good chance a R could ride around in a car throwing feces at voters in 2012 and win. What you fail to see during your breathless rants and bs that you toss around is that Obama's decisions have consequences. He can dress up, call the tv stations to put him on and give all the empty speeches he wants. But in the end, his decisions have consequences. That will be all any opposing candidate needs.

Obama is not building the country up in their eyes, he is exacerbating the problem. So in essence they are trying to stop him from making things worse as they see it. This is the same thing Democrats did while Bush was president. There is no difference.

Like it or not the Republicans are on the side of the American majority on the main issue at hand. The left can scream about them being obstructionist all they want, the majority don't want Obama health care as laid out. If he was to drastically change his plan many might jump on, the problem is he is too headstrong to do this. He has tried a new approach that did gain some ground for him. There are holes in this plan, holes that he steadfastly denies are there.

As much as you say this makes Republicans look bad I think Obama trying to stubbornly pound this plan through helps them. The average centrist American is much more likely to lean right at this time. Obama has taken this country on a dramatic swing to the left when all most people really wanted was a correction back towards the center. Bush showed the Americans what a stubborn president can do to the country when he gets fixated on a couple of issues and doesn't get the bigger picture and Obama is doing the same thing on many levels.

how convenient it is of you to forget that the democrats have sufficient majorities in both houses to ram through ANY legislation they want. And yet, like your hero, Teleprompter Jesus, you keep erecting strawmen.

What's truly amazing is that the news media is now focused on Joe Wilson. Obama couldn't sway the public with his well delivered speech, despite invoking the memory of the vile Ted Kennedy. So the CNN's of the world are now portraying Wilson as a whip-wielding "massa" and his outburst as having a "chilling effect" on the healthcare debate.

I am so sick and tired of stinking liberals always wanting to play the victim card. For once in your misbegotten lives, stand up and at least pretend to have a pair.

I think that booing or mumbling restlessly sort of happens occassionally. I know I see that on meetings of the House of Commons when I catch it from time to time as I flip through channels.

Not sure I recall anyone actually shouting out "Liar!" before. That may be a first.

I heard this morning that his opponent in the next election recorded a surge in contributions last night, something like $100,000 over night. Oops.[/QUOTE]

update.......Joe Wilson is getting thousands of people calling and sending financial support to make sure he is re-elected..........MoveON.org better open up that check book a little wider
