Preston Bailey says Vols have 2 silents

ric, do you want to go back to the Bill Battle days of giving preference to unrated Tennessee kids who bleed orange? That did not work very well last time the Vols tried it and back then there were no pesky scholarship limits nor strict enforcement of recruiting violations.

Never said that. But these high school all-american teams are not the only good players in the country. Not even close.

i would rather have the kid who bleeds orange given the choie
Thank God most of us would rather win. Of course, given the choice I would prefer a team full of guys like Berry who bleed orange and are 5* All Americans.

They may not be the the only good players but odds are that they are the closest thing anyone can get to a sure-fire homerun player. For the most part these are the kids who come to school ready and able to make a difference immediately if given the opportunity.

Gerald Riggs Jr. was a fantastic athlete who threw it all away. Most premier players are not going to canker their future NFL careers by half-assing on the practice field and giving practically no effort in the classroom.

no UTK commits listed in either AA game (Army or ESPN). And yeah, most highly rated guys get named to the AA rosters even if they do not decide to suit up and play. Keep fiddling while Rome burns if you like.

Yes but oddly when UT has guys that go to those games and perform extremely well... folks here consider them flukes... Crompton won awards the year he played in the Army AA... but because he was orange enough to sit behind Ainge rather than start for Spurrier... Many "vol fans" think he's a bust.

These are a list of players that were not HS All-Americans.
Jerod Mayo, Jonathon Hefney, Erik Ainge, Denarrius Moore, Daniel Lincoln, Michael Crabtree, P.J. Hill, DeMeco Ryans, Amobi Okoye...etc. Just because your not in the All-American games doesn't mean you can't make an impact.

duh, no one is disputing that, just as no one is disputing the fact that there will be guys that end up as college all-americans that didnt play in the Army game. However, the guys that get invited to play in that game are the closest to being surefire impact players on the college level. It is kind of worrisome that we dont have a single guy in that game that's headed our way. It sure looks like our recruiting year is slipping away
