Pride of the Southland not going to Norman

This just might fire the UT team up more after hearing the OU fight song all week in practice to go out to Norman and do very well.

Probably not. Round trip charter flight and motel rooms, you probably need 2%. 1.5% if ground transportation is used.

Hotel rooms, travel, meal stipends, food for during practice and on the busses before the game a lot of the time.

That gets expensive, really quick.

That and the fact we never stay at anything worse than a 2 letter outer.

For those of you going to the game, during OU's pregame, our band will play Rocky Top to the visitors sections.

Not that anyone traveling would miss it, but I'd highly recommend making pre-game a part of the to do list. Some schools, like Texas, seem to like to fill the stadium by the 2nd quarter.

Outside of OU's pregame, and flyover/national anthem, you also have Rocky Top to look forward to.

I love bands that do that. I always liked learning the visiting team fight songs when I was in UTs band.

Though Down the Field is our fight song, not Rocky Top.

Whoops... As I typed that, I actually wondered, and googled it and the first thing I saw said Rocky Top Fight Song in a youtube video and went with that. Oh well...

Maybe we'll be better and play Rocky Top, too. Over the PA system during warmups or something.

Seriously - who doesn't like to hear Rocky Top? We sang that in a 5th grade (in Norman) and I knew all the words. Still could probably sign along if I had to.

Don't feel bad. A lot of people in our fan base don't know that. And I can count the number of people I went to school with who know the words to Down the Field on one hand.

Ironically, you can count the words to our fight song nearly on one hand...

Could this have any anything to do with home teams wanting to keep those seats/tickets available to sell? Just curious

it is about the current financial situation at Tennessee and only that.

Until season tickets and donor rolls rise money is going to continue to be a problem for a lot of things. Hart said they need to get the reserve into the 50 million dollar range to be able to compete in this conference. It is at 2 million and has been for the last several years.

Again, will take season ticket sales to start seeing that number go up..

The Marching Virginians, (VA Tech) did not travel or bring the pep band to Ohio St game last Saturday.

They are only traveling to 3 away games this year.

Grew up in South Florida and we also sang Rocky Top in Elementary School music class along with KumBaYa and Michael Row your boat etc. We sang 'eat our corn in a car' though for obvious reasons and I sing that to this day in memory. Some redneck sumbeech almost clocked me last time in Neyland until he saw my UT Alumni shirt I was sporting when he reeled around.

I caught wind of this yesterday. The guys on SiriusXM 91 were BLASTING UT for not taking the band to such a huge game.

They were basically framing it as UT was expecting not to win and decided not to drag the band along. But mainly just questioning UTs support of the team.

Even if this was like the mid 2000's, I still don't see the full band going to Norman.

Did anyone hear Mark Packer on SiriusXM Sports Nation giving Dave Hart hell today about the band not going to Norman? It was hilarious. He was saying some great things about The Vols in the process. He was saying that you don't decide against sending the band to a big game like this because Rocky Topp is the best damn fight song in the country.
