Pro football focus graded Joe Milton out better than anyone else on the team Saturday night in Gainesville.

Hooker alone? Doubtful with the same play calls we saw from Heupel.

When given the chance to drop dimes, Joe did pretty well, just like Hooker would've.

When all that's being dialed up 85% of the time is screens and handoffs, Hooker wouldn't have made a difference.

It's not the QB when the coach is calling a conservative game every week.
Why do you think we are running screens and handoffs since the 2nd quarter of the apsu game ?

I think his play between the whistles is pretty good but the pre-snap stuff is pretty bad. He is not operating the offense with any tempo or sense of urgency, checking late not knowing how much time he has left on the snap clock etc. Not what you would expect from someone who has been playing college football for 5 years.

This right here is the biggest concern. We had to use 2 timeouts early in the 3rd because he was confused.

For all the idiots blaming the quarterback, a large portion of the offensive line graded out in the 40s…
Unsurprisingly, Tennessee’s offensive line graded out horrifically. Four of the lowest five grades were from offensive linemen including really poor grades from Lane, Karic and Crawford. Crawford, who started at right tackle and played every snap over Gerald Mincey, earned a 26.6 pass block grade.

Blaming the qb for every loss is the laziest form of football analysis
i put blame on the head coach for being in year 3 and still having martinez and banks around. also put it on him for trotting milton out there over and over.
milton is a below average QB and he does nothing that Nico cant do.
Nico could be doing the same thing Joe is doing while also gaining valuable experience for next season... there is no value to playing Milton.

Amen, brother.

The SEC is won and lost in the trenches. We lost... BADLY.

SMH.

This is what so few are able to grasp. Even with high-flying offenses, football starts at the LOS. Skill players need time and room to operate.

You can call the greatest play possible…but if your O Line gets blown up, you are screwed.

The team that wins the LOS usually wins the game. We lost badly on the LOS on both sides of the ball last night…and we lost badly.

You have absolutely zero basis to think this. This is a pure guess. I agree with you that it’s ridiculous Banks and Martinez are still around (and truthfully, that they were ever hired), but your speculation about Nico is just that, speculation. I have a hard time believing a true freshman would’ve thrown for nearly 300 yards at 60% with one turnover in the swamp the way the O line and WRs were playing last night

We scored 16 pts with Milton at QB against an average Florida team. That tells you more than some arbitrary PFF grade. Milton isn't the reason why we lost, but he didn't help much either. Letting Florida score 4 TDs in a row in the first half defeated this team. His INT didn't help. We had a chance to make it interesting in the 3rd quarter but only ended up with a FG and lost it on downs on 2 consecutive drives. Milton led those drives too. Thus far, this offensive is a shell of itself compared to last year's team with him at the helm.

You're right, I don't know for sure that Nico would have had as good as stat line as Joe.
But I truly saw Joe do nothing that a highly touted 5 star freshman QB can't do.
All Joe does now is throw at the line or behind it. If Nico can't do that then we have bigger problems.
Lots of true freshman go out there and do what Joe is doing plus some. There is simply no value to playing Joe. He isn't doing anything a 5 star freshman QB can't do. He can't even throw on the run and his game/clock management is truly terrible. He has so many chances to tuck the ball and run for the gains but he just...doesnt. Nico could be gaining experience for next season and maybe even improve enough to win us a game or two that we shouldn't win.. because right now, I don't see us beating any SEC team aside from Vanderbilt.

You need to take a beat. That’s silly

And if you saw nothing from Joe last night that would surprise you to see from a true freshman QB, idk what to tell you. We watched different games

Go back and watch his last pass. 4th and ten, have to have 1st, has squirrel open and throws the ball in the dirt. Sums up his whole career. At that point OL sucking,DB sucking, play calling sucking didn’t matter. It was in his hands to make a difference and he was incapable

Again, who is arguing that Milton > Hooker, or even Milton = Hooker? Saying he didn’t lose the game for us last night is not saying he’s a superstar
Bottom line negas will be negas. In this instance we have negaVOLS and negaJoes joining forces.

True Freshman Dobbs would have had this team closer to beating Florida last night than 6th year Joe Milton.

right and he's been using the whole play clock the last two games. I didn't see it as much with Virginia. I don't know what thats about. Maybe its also a situation with the plays getting in late. The playcalling has just been really weird and inexplicable. Another thing I don't like is having the QB coach who is now your offensive coordinator up top instead of on the field with Joe.

Not allowing the defense to get set so many times would’ve helped tremendously imo. I’m with you on your explanation, it made all the difference. How long has it been since we’ve seen the play clock get close to 0 so many times in a game?

That is absolutely the reason he is so frustrating for Vol fans.

Consider this as well; guys like Franks and Milton absolutely wow coaches in practices. How else can you explain two proven offensive playcallers and QB coaches in Dan Mullen and Josh Heupel original picking these guys over all-time greats. Mullen picked Franks over Kyle Trask, Heupel originally picked Milton over Hooker.

It’s an interesting phenomenon.

I know everyone has a soft spot for Ollie, and he gives all he's got, but he's just nowhere near an SEC-caliber offensive lineman. Nor is Dayne Davis. And surely Mincey has to be better than Crawford. Obviously getting Cooper back will help, but for all the bitching about officiating (valid), Milton (he didn't have a good game, but he didn't have a bad one, either), playcalling (largely valid), etc., the real reason we lost this game is because Florida was able to pretty much shut down our running game with six in the box, and quite honestly, our WR group this year is nowhere near as good as it was last year, not getting anywhere near as much separation. The South Carolina game is basically a must-win now, or UT could be looking down the barrel of 7-5.
