Project how this class finishes

The rumor is he's going to transfer, smart guy!

Because that makes sense...

Please entertain us with your inside knowledge. Jalen has a good shot at being the all time leading rusher at his state university. I've never heard anything about him being unhappy. He is not being rivaled by another player for playing time. This sounds like the dumbest rumor around.

Tennessee needs to sign some more running backs if the rumor about Jalen Hurd leaving is true.

Hurd leaving doesn't pass the logic test. We haven't seen anything, anywhere that would indicate any unhappiness. Sometimes I see things on VN that seem like someone just trying to start trouble and doubts. I'll believe it when I see it.

Prove the source is one of the best on here.

To be fair, Vol74 has proven he is very much in the know when it comes to Hurd. If Jalen is unhappy, it's still hard to believe he would sit a year and play a year somewhere else when many believe he is going pro after next year. I understand his frustration with the running scheme, but it's not like he has had a bad year running the ball.

Also, NEOCON posted that he made a call and the rumor is completely false. Anyone care to check his stats?

It never made sense for Hurd to leave since he will be over 1,000 in yardage for the year and a very reasonable shot at becoming UT's all time leading rusher. And the fact he was hugging his O Lineman makes me not worried about this at all.

No offence, but I only trust a select few on this site about being close to players. And Vol74 isnt one of them. He may be close to Hurd, but I dont believe it. Also, my post wasnt about Vol74. It was about someone else.

Why is he unhappy? The guy is a centerpiece of our offense and is coming off of a monster season. Thisnis crazy talk.

74 said basically that he doesn't like not knowing whether he's getting the ball or not until the exact moment Josh places it in his belly. Also, doesn't like having to break tackles in the backfield more often than not.

Did anyone else notice that Hurd wasn't celebrating much last night, even when he scored? I have only got to watch the second half so far, as I had a work emergency during the first half. He ran hard, but just didn't look emotionally invested in the game. Maybe I am reading too much into it, considering the information being put on this board by 74.

I find it hard to believe Hurd transfers regardless of what 74 says. I'm not sure I'd read too much into the celebration things. I've noticed he doesn't seem to be a real rah rah guy. I just don't see him transferring unless he's has a huge personality conflict with Butch and Gillespie. Also, this reminds me of the Josh Malone chatter last year.

Fwiw, Jalen Hurd re-tweeted a column from Bleacher Report last week entitled, "In Shredding Mizzou, Jalen Hurd is Present and Future Workhorse for the Vols". I have no idea who this "74" is and I would bet that none of you that are giving credence to this absurd rumor do either. This is so typical of the alarmist nature of VN.

Yeah, 1,000 yard sophomore rushers for 8-9 win SEC teams (who will be a pre-season top 25 next year) transfer all the time don't they?

It makes zero sense for Hurd to transfer and I don't think he will. But, I do believe 74 is legitimately close to Hurd and/or his family. It's not hard for me to believe that Hurd could be frustrated at times during the year. I am sure he feels he's as good as Chubb, Fornette, and Henry but he's not getting the pub that they are and he's wondering why. He probably blames the offensive system and the O-line. He's probably vented at some point and that got carried by 74 over here either first or second hand. Unwisely so IMO.

I think CBJ is trying very hard to make Hurd a star. He gushes over him after every game. He makes sure he gets his touches and stats.

Hurd knows what kind of offense he is in. Nothing has changed since his recruitment. I call hooey on all this.

Back on topic:

What's the confidence in closing strong with a top 12ish class?

More precisely I guess would be top 1/4 of the SEC?

You are correct that "74" didn't do Jalen any favors by airing this out on a message board (assuming it's even accurate). Also, let's not forget that Alabama didn't even recruit Hurd as an RB and that Florida would have likely made him a TE or HB by now (and their O line is just as bad as ours). If he had gone to Ohio St (he would have won a lot more) but played behind Ezekial Elliot and for a team that runs the QB even more than Tennessee. Butch not only has given him a chance to play the position he wanted to play but has started him every game and made him the feature back in a run first offense. It's hard to imagine any team catering to him as much as Tennessee has. He is a very hard runner but not the homerun threat that Chubb, Henry, Fournette or even Alex Collins is.
