Project how this class finishes

The Hurd rumors don't make any sense at all.

He's at the most physically demanding position in football. At RB, you want to get into the NFL as soon as you can to earn your paychecks. When we recruited Hurd, he looked like a 3-and-done type of guy. He's performed about as expected and nothing has really changed. He's still probably a 1st Round draft pick in 2017 assuming he stays healthy. So why would he transfer, sit out a year, and then not enter the draft till 2018? Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Even sharing the ball with another RB and a running QB, he still racked up over 1,100 yards this season. It's possible he's had some "frustrations", but honestly, any player that cares has some "frustrations." The Ohio State player that caused the media firestorm with his "frustration with the offense" basically walked back all those comments this week, saying he let emotions get the best of him.

If this team is ranked and rolling next year, Hurd will be the talk of college football- that's just how it works.

To be fair, Vol74 has proven he is very much in the know when it comes to Hurd. If Jalen is unhappy, it's still hard to believe he would sit a year and play a year somewhere else when many believe he is going pro after next year. I understand his frustration with the running scheme, but it's not like he has had a bad year running the ball.

Also, NEOCON posted that he made a call and the rumor is completely false. Anyone care to check his stats?

The running scheme that's going to make him UT's all time leading rusher? Are you listening to yourself?

If Jalen is frustrated about anything, it is probably the fact that he does not yet have an offensive line the caliber of which Henry and Fournette run behind. If you put Jalen behind either of those lines, he would also be a 1,500-yard rusher, even with sharing carries with Kamara. As things are, Hurd may well lead the nation in yards after contact. Because of his size and strength, Jalen has transformed a lot of would be negative yardage runs into short yardage gains. If our guys were more proficient in drive blocking, you would also see Jalen exhibit more of his straight-line speed. As things stand now, most of his long runs come after he has run laterally to the line of scrimmage and turned upfield as he approaches the sideline.

NEOCON lost a ban bet and is sill posting on VN. That is the only stat I am certain about. :)

He is far from a 1st RD pick. It's not very often a RB goes in the first round anyway and if they do they are on a very elite level. Hurd is a good RB but not elite and not a first rounder. That could change but just don't see it.

Fair point. Running backs rarely go in the 1st round these days. But he'll be among the top backs picked when he does go pro.

I think we close out with Marquez Callaway, Velus Jones, Landon Dickerson, Jordan Smith, Nigel Warrior, and some off the radar DT or DB.

I don't think Henderson will be a Vol.

Hard to project, considering 5-7 of the current commitments will probably be "recruited over". I expect to get 20-22 commits and be ranked 8-10th.

Can we sign that many this year? For us to get to 8-10, we are gonna have to land some big fish.

I think this is going to be a very interesting finish to this recruiting cycle. Most people seem to think we take 20-23 players, but we're still in on a lot of big names with 18 already committed. Just looking at who we're currently recruiting, it seems like the coaches would still like to add:

1 DT
1 DE
1 S (Nigel Warrior, come on down!)
1 CB
1-2 O-linemen
2-3 WR

Something is going to have to give, but I have a feeling we'll be very pleased with the final result. I also think that what we're experiencing right now may very well be the calm before the storm. Between coaching changes, transfers, prospects flipping/de-committing, and blue chippers making late decisions, I think things are about to get very interesting.

Just going off of what we've been told, whether it's from P-Fort, Doug Mathews, etc, it looks like the magic number for this class will be 20, 21 if you include Zach Stewart (this due to the SEC limit set at 25, and including the assumed 4 blueshirts from last class and Grayshirt/Jan enrollee Stewart).

We have 18 current known commits (19 if you include Stewart), so 2 more spots available. If we have more than that on our big board that want in, look for a few current commits to take a look around.

2016 Class, IMO-

QB - Guarantano (DONE)
RB - Fils-Aime (DONE)
WR - George, B.Johnson, C.Henderson, TD Marshall (targeting more)
TE - Pope, Brooks (DONE)
OL - R.Johnson, Stewart (targeting more)

DE - Kongbo, Okonya (targeting more)
DT - A.Johnson, Christmas-Giles (targeting more)
LB - Bituli, Hart, Blakely (DONE)
CB - Osborne, D.Henderson (targeting more)
S - [none] (targeting more)

I'll guess we try to sign another WR or two, and end up asking one or two to look around.
Targets - Hardman, V.Jones, Corley, Callaway, W.Johnson

I think we try to sign one more true tackle on the OL.
Targets - Dickerson, Tatum, ??.

I think we'd like to take 1 more freshman DE. If we lose Kongbo to Oregon or someone else, I'd look for Bonner to commit.
Targets - K.Thomas, J.Smith, J.Bonner, J.Simmons

Two very good DT's currently committed. Christmas-Giles is heavily targeted right now, will need to fight to keep him. If Derrick Brown wanted in, look for DCG to look around. If miss on Brown and lose DCG, look for a guy like Mykelle McDaniel or UNC commit Marlon Dunlap.
Targets - D.Brown, T.Clark, M.Carter, M.McDaniel, M.Dunlap

I wouldn't be surprised if 1 LB ended up looking elsewhere. We are very deep at that position, currently. Just a guess, though.

Just in case we lose Coach Martinez, I think we may see one of these CB's look to go with/look around.
Targets - L.Hill, A. Robinson, ??.

And of course, I think we'll be all in on Nigel Warrior. I don't think we'll take a safety if we miss (either way, look for Jennings to move there in the spring).

Thoughts???
