I've been pleasantly surprised by our D all season this far. If Maggit as Randolph stock around for one last season and we see continued progression, our D will be special next season.

One thing that impressed me was the closing speed of our defensive players when OU went to the edges, also when they tried to run toward our DBs (especially Cam), they blocked off their player and made the tackle.

That is what makes me more confident when we play teams like UF, being able to close in and make the tackles before the player gets turned down-field.

So far, our 3rd down defense is 10-43, that is around 23% (if my calculations are correct). That is through three games (2 decent teams and one potential national champion team). If those stats are any indication of what is to come this season, I like our chances on winning some games this year. A couple football bounces our way against OU, we might just have made that game closer. Being able to make 3rd down stops is going to give our offense chances to win games this year.

Because no loss is complete without a good lynch mob. If you find the right coach, he can bend the matrix and win every game by thought alone. Plus, football is easy. Hell, 5 year olds can play, and their dads can coach. How hard can it all be?

After watching Kentucky and Florida off and on tonight....Florida looks VERY BEATABLE!

Didn't they beat us two years ago on the shoulders of a QB who was a RS Jr that hadn't played a snap since high school and was brought in mid game with no practice with the first team? Florida looked very beatable then too.

Special teams in general haven't looked very good so far this season...

Our kicking game has been a letdown at times, but last night we blocked a FG, recovered a muffed punt, and came very close to blocking a punt on two separate occasions. That's the most hustle I've seen out of our special teams this year.

This made my day.

Defense fought hard and never quit. Loved the big hit that Sutton made even with the game out of reach. The team grew up some last night. Better days ahead.

The defense was much better than I expected. There was no quit in them. That hit by Sutton in the 4th quarter is proof of that. However, I do question what this d will look like next year without AJ.

As I pointed out on another thread, Oklahoma's offense scored 45 points and 48 points in their first two games.

Our defense limited them to 27. And 7 of those were due to the Big XII replay crew ignoring a fumble that should have given us the ball. Instead, they got to keep it and scored a bonus TD before the end of the first half. Take away that score and our defense shuts them out in the 2nd and 4th quarters of the game in their building.

OU wasn't all that aggressive on offense after they scored a TD right out of the gate in the 2nd half. It was ballgame and they knew it.

They may not have been as aggressive on first and second down, but they certainly wanted to convert 3rd and 4th downs Â… and they were denied 6 of 6 times in the second half.

Excuses, excuses.

lol

All joking aside, I totally get it. The offer stands should you change your mind. Hope you heal up soon.

Daj,
Is there a link to your blog? or is it even up yet?

Also, thinking back to our pre game discussion of odds of winning. ESPN FPI basically said there was a 1/8 chance we win. I found it interesting that 3 plays dramatically changed the game (Fumble no overturn, 2 INT's in end zone), yielding a 28 point swing. If you call those 3 plays 50/50 for Tennessee vs. OU, we would have had to win all 3 of those plays to win the game, a 1 in 8 shot. As it turns out we lost all 3 and the score looked ugly.

Bajakian is a very good coordinator. Most of those yards were on a couple of plays. And most of their points came from horrible field position caused by our god awful punter.

The defense held one of the best teams in football to 3 for 12 on 3rd down. I was highly impressed.
I am not at all impressed with Bajakian, I wish I could be.

The best any of us can hope for is our D to play well enough to give us a chance to win. They did that against OU. The O always takes longer to set than the D but it will come. Worley has a much better arm than the UGA QB we'll see in a couple of weeks.

Many on here have hated on him and Willie since day one. With that said our defense is legit. One more recruiting class....add a true SEC elite DT Mr. McKenzie...SEC EAST LOOK OUT! Don't think any other offense we will face this year will be any where as explosive as OU. As this season goes on....we get more game speed experience...teams are going to dread facing the Big Orange!

McKenzie.... Picou..... Tuttle.... to along with Barnett, Hendrix, O. Williams, Vereen next year. It's gonna be really, really good. Now go get us an elite corner and I'm happy as a pig in mud.

The thing I like about our defense is they believe in JJ. He prepares them where they are not surprised by opposing teams offense. He has his signalers ready to send in signals early enough that they are ready at the snap vs running on and off sideline trying to adjust. There is a lot of preparation to be set at the snap. I give credit to JJ and his staff.
