Props to our team

I do not understand how people can sit there and not notice a 7..a friggen 7 year drought of making a final four and keep coming up with excuses and blind support. On top of that we have some decent players in the wings but by no means is there enough talent there to guarantee a final four appearance...much less another national title. I mean we are Tennessee, the best of the best and our fanbase is ok with falling into conversations with Baylor, Notre Dame, Louisville, Maryland, Duke, South Carolina...etc etc..etc...that is a damn joke. Please keep making excuses, it will make it easier for the university and Holly to never worry about putting a better product on the court.

It's just one loss, we're still in the SEC Tournament with a #2 seed, and we'll still be in the NCAA tournament with either a #1 or #2 seed. We still have a team with a lot of heart and determination.
We need to remember, offense sells tickets, defense wins games, and REBOUNDS win championships. We were out rebounded and gave up way too many second, third and fourth shots to a very good SC team.

Well I did watch the game and I am sorry...we just lost the SEC to a team that has now beaten us a total of 4 times ever. We lost because we do not have depth, we do not have height, and we do not have superstar level players. The same old story. Lost out on Wilson and she is twice the player Russell will ever be. The Lady Vols are not the men's team, there are no moral victories for teams who have won 8 national titles. Good grief, Bama football would never talk to moral victories, UK MBB would never talk of that either. Man up Volnation...half the reason your teams and athletic department is deteriorating is the fact that most of you have come complacent with losing and not being what we once were in every sport across the board. The Lady Vols should never lack in the talent department, especially not to a bunch of lumps in Columbia, South Carolina. WAKE UP!!!

BAMA football? You talking about those guys whose priorities are so screwed up they poison trees? Better than Russell will ever be? What a genius. Why don't we get Russell healthy before we make that determination.

South Carolina still has to play at Kentucky. And we all know Mitchell will have his team carrying switch blades in their back pocket when they play. Some of these comments make it embarrassing to be a Tennessee Vol Fan! Their were two times in the 2nd half where we could of folded... we didn't, we lost by one possession.
If you look at the top 5 teams right now and put them in our position last night (USC home game, 14,000 fans, playing USC)
1. Uconn, would of won, we know that
2. ND, I think the game would be similar (close score through out), but ND guard play would pull out the win.
3. Baylor, would of lost by 10 points (post can't compete with USC post)
4. Maryland, would of lost, 10+ points (talent and experience playing top 10 competition)

Then there is us. It is very telling of how we did not fold and finished strong. It is a great sign. First test without Izzy. We are NOT the same team we were in November. We have improved. We have a LEGIT shot at the SEC tourney championship. With the right bracket pairing, absolutely a final 4 could be in our cards. After last nights game, we are the #5 team in the country as it stands (I put us in front of Maryland) They key for us is this, we have to play like we did last night from here on out. It's do or die. I don't know if we will, but I know we can, that is why we have a legit chance.

Add to that no injuries.

If you want guarantees, then really don't be a sports fan.

Under CPS, the LVs had an eight year championship drought (basically the period between Holdsclaw and Parker). To my earlier post, you had claimed that the LVs could no longer bring in talent, hence the relevance of DeShields and Cooper. But fine "ALL IS LOST," "I AM MAD AS HELL AND NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!!". So, are the LVs now any closer to being a final four. Exactly what is the mechanism by which fan rants influence outcomes? For me, I will appreciate the effort given by the LVs last night and recognize that injuries to key players (Harrison, Jones, and Tucker) DO have an effect on a team's performances.

I am disappointed we lost, and I am not into moral victories, but like many have said this team showed the kind of will and toughness we haven't seen in a long time. 3 times in her post-game interview Staley basically said, Thank God we were at home." To me that says a lot. I know Izzy was a very good player, and she is greatly missed for many reasons, specifically rebounding {which is why we lost last night}, but our turnovers have been way down the last 2 and a half games, the offense has had a better flow, and the Lady Vols now have a chip on their shoulder which I like.

Once Izzy went down, everyone basically said the season was over. Last night showed me that isn't true. I am not saying we will get to the Final Four or win the National Championship, but I am excited to see what happens in March.

I agree with what you said. Still have a lot of hope for this team this year.

A few days ago, after S.C. lost to UConn, we had many posters claiming that S.C. was way over rated and were just not really that good. Now that the Lady Vols have played them down to the wire, it's "Oh what a wonderful game against the powerful #2 team in the country!!"

Yeah, I know that Harrison didn't play, but so what? She's wasn't all that dependable consistently when she was playing.

South Carolina is a very good team, but the fact is, they are overrated. Given their ranking, and on their home court, and considering Tennessee's size and depth issues right now, South Carolina should have by all accounts run away with this game. They didn't. Instead, the game could have gone either way in the last minute. To me, that says a great deal about BOTH teams, and at the end of the day, it puts Tennessee in a much more favorable light than South Carolina. At home and/or with Izzy, Tennessee likely would have won this game.

SC is a tad overrated in that they couldn't beat ND either. UCONN and ND and head and shoulders above everybody else and UCONN is a mile ahead of ND. As much as it makes me want to gag Geno is so far ahead of everyone coaching its not even funny.

What do you mean she wasn't all that dependable? What games were you watching?

I disagree with the over rated aspect. Let me put it this way (and I am not implying you made the following statements) but prior to the game, there was a lot of pessimism expressed on this board. Basically, SC now had much better talent and a much, much, much, much better coach-- the kind of great recruiter, great motivator, great strategist who could lead the LVs to the promise land in ways that are beyond the meager capacities of Holly Warlick. So, Holly takes an injury ridden team with no real post presence to play mighty SC's on their home court and almost steals a victory.

So, if the narrative now becomes that SC must be over rated since the LVs played them tough, it is clear that Holly and this team are never going to get credit.

I disagree. I think what Holly and the team did last night was phenomenal given the injuries and shortened roster. Had this game been at TBA or on a neutral court, or had Izzy and Jasmine Jones been in the game, I think the Lady Vols would have won, and very likely would have won handily. There's no doubt in my mind that Holly was the better coach last night, and the effort on everyone's part was above and beyond. That said, I simply have not bought into all of the hype surrounding South Carolina. I think they are a very good, solid top-10 team, no doubt, but in terms of being ranked Number 2? I simply don't think so. Honestly, with Izzy and Jasmine, I think Tennessee was hands down the better of the two teams; without Izzy and Jasmine, I still think they may be the better team. That they didn't win last night doesn't change my view. If I had to bet which team would be more likely to reach the Final Four, assuming Tennessee continues to play as it did last night, my money is on Tennessee.

I agree I haven't watched all UT games this season, but the number that I have watched, they were televised meaning they were mostly against the better opponents that y'all have played. I thought this was one of the if not THE best effort given by your team against one of the top opponents I've seen. USC isn't exactly chopped liver on defense, especially when they play at home. Y'all lost your top scorer & rebounder, and one of the better shooters %-wise in Harrison, but still the Vol team shot better than their season average. The 43.8% was actually surprising to me to read in the post-game stats as your team hit on so many clutch shots that I was expecting y'all to have hit on above 50% of your attempts last night.

IMO, your team did what talented teams do with great depth: you played like you didn't just lose your best player on the team. If that team last night had to play the entire '14-'15 season it would IMO still be a top-10 team...

So IMO it wasn't a case of USC being over-rated or not being as good as they should be, because they didn't route your Lady Vols last night. It was simply because the LVs didn't pout and fall away due to their losses: they rose to the challenge and played very competitively above the expectations. Congrats!

Dawn Staley stated that if this game was played somewhere else it may have been a different result but I give credit to USC. They won. I like the way we fought as well. I hope we both are in Tampa come April.
