Pruitt Staffers

Cochran didn't go with Kirby because he was almost vested in the Retirement System of Alabama (RSA). I think he hit the needed 10 years this year. Could possibly pull him now.

Heard the RSA thing too (when Smart went after Cochran.)

Would LOVE it, but don’t see Cochran leaving Alabama. $600K/year, perennial CFP team, has Saban-like status in Alabama, has a boss who will match or top any offer. Does he stay?

Or, uproot the wife and kids, go to an 0-8 SEC team, who just hired a first-time HC who has 3-4 years to win the SEC or he’s gone.

Again, like you, would love it, but he’s the cream of the crop and we don’t have the rep to pull that off right now.

My fear is, if he goes anywhere (don’t think he will) he’ll end up at Georgia with Smart. We’re better off with him staying at Alabama.

McClendon appears to be top choice. They won't make a hire there till first of the year in my opinion.

What's up with this?

Pruitt has plucked Georgia outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer and Florida's Chris Rumph as his co-defensive coordinators

There's gotta be one guy in charge

IMO Pruitt is going to oversee the defense, so Sherrer and Rumph will have co-DC titles, but mainly focus on their position groups.

I also do not know if those will be the correct titles. We will have to wait to see official announcement.

Personally, I want to see 2 distinct qualities from each staff member: recruiting acumen and ability to coach players.

Butch and Co did a good job at the first and a horrible job at the second. It is readily apparent that most of what little success was seen over the last several years was due to individual athletic ability (Dobbs) and had nothing at all to do with our old staffs ability to take a 3* caliber player and develop him into a 4-5* player after a year or 2.

What I see so far in the Pruitt staff is the opposite, at least on paper since we haven't seen them in Knoxville yet. How exciting would it be to have coaches that are actually able to modify their schemes to maximize the potential of the athletes they have available instead of forcing athletes to conform to the existing scheme, no matter what??

The co-coordinator thing has become pretty common in college football. If you don't give a guy like Rumph a coordinator title, why leave Florida? It makes his resume look better.

Are there any rumors on the offensive side of the ball? Definitely hoping for a good WR coach

McClendon, out of USCe is rumored to be the top target, and won't know for sure until after their bowl game.

I call it the "Jeff Fisher Corollary." Look at the Rams and how well they are playing after Fisher was fired. The talent was clearly there. I think there is considerable talent on the current Tennessee team, and we may see a marked improvement in consistency in very short order...if the staff can coach as well as projected.

The WVU game will be a good litmus test as to how well this staff can coach. Not to say that we should win, but play more consistently and with purpose in the scheme.

I'm not sure Grier returns next year but either way we should still best W.Va.They are a 7-5 team this year and probably 7-6 after their bowl game. They don't play D and the teams that beat them this have have been the teams that actually play some defense. I would be more worried if it was a home game for them but it's a neutral site game. They also have 21 SRs on their roster. Not sure where they fall on the depth chart but that's a lot regardless.
