Both the Missouri and Purdue rivals sites similar to Volquest have not announced his decision as of 1:45 PM EST.

Nothing on Mizzou,Purdue,ESPN,Fox Sports or Indy Star yet so I'm not putting much faith that anything is "official" yet.

Rucker tweeted that Purdue now has a coaching vacancy. Did Coach Zo anticipate this happening and chose to come to UT anyway? Discuss.

Now it appears that Painter is staying if ESPN is correct. Did we luck up by getting Coach Zo before Mizzou could take another run at him? How does Mike Hamiton's decision making look on this hire now?

Coach Martin has already acknowledged this, saying he loves Purdue and always will, but he felt UT was the better opportunity. You must have missed this.

Painter stayed.

Big Papa has it right that he stayed according to ESPN a couple of minutes ago. Sounds like a powerful tug of war was going on.

I believe Coach Zo knew this would be a war and decided to go his own way instead of waiting to return to Purdue.

Of course UTs the better opportunity. Pretty much falls in line with Pearl saying after the Michigan blowout, "I'll be the coach next year, I've done a lot here" when in reality, he knew he was gone. Your not going to say anything else in that situation if your Coach Zo.

Looks like Painter won this battle considering the AD probably caved in and gave him a raise is the reason he stayed.

Painter is staying and I'm trying to figure out why this thread isn't in the 'Around the NCAA' forum.

Coach Zo would not have left to be the coach of Purdue even if there was a vacancy.

You don't know that. Point is, there wasn't a vacancy at Purdue while he had an offer on the table from UT. So, he took what was available.

I made a presumptive statement.

But I do not think he is the type of person who would agree to be UTs coach one week and the next week bolt for another school.

That's not what I said. I don't think he would have left for Purdue, either. I simply think that if Purdue were offering him a position at the same time, things may have been different. But since they weren't, he chose the available gig, rather that wait around on the off chance that his preferred job (if it is indeed his preference) should become available.

$2.6 Buy-out if the contract has been signed. Would not think that this man would leave UT whether he has signed the papers or not without coaching a game to go to Purdue.
