Put up or Shut up Time for Coach Martin

and then attempted to convince a recruit and his parents to lie for him to cover it.

Except the part where this didn't actually happen, but is another oft repeated lie, like the bump violation.

I honestly believe Pearl will reach the elite 8 again before Martin ever does.

We have just as much talent on our team now as we did in 2010, so I'm not buying that. It boils down to coaching. Ex., the Lady Vols.

Yeah, this team is definitely as deep and versatile as our 12 deep rotation of the 2009-2010 squad. Solid analysis there, Jack.

Bruce Pearl could never coach again and still get to the elite 8 before CM.

Your very swine boy Bruce Pearl. You do realize his removal set this program back a few years, right? I hope you also realize it took Sir Bruce 5 whole years to build an Elite Eight caliber roster.

To blame the bench on Pearl in year 3 is hilarious and ridiculous. Pearl is responsible for Jordan, Maymon and partial credit for Stokes. After that, the strange recruiting practices of Martin are where all the credit lies.

60/100 is an F.

In school. This argument never made sense to me. School averages and other averages are not equal. Average means comparing all "like" things. Why don't you compare the average record of NFL coach and maybe you will learn something?

If you think 60% is an F, then what do you think about Tom Landry, Bill Belichek, Mike Tomlin, Tom Coughlin, and Pete Carroll as NFL head coaches?

Note: I am in no way saying that Martin is a great coach, but that analysis is ridiculous.

10% difference in winning percentage in sports is huge. If we won 3+ more games last year, we're in the NCAAs. If we beat A&M 2x, and UTEP this season we're 23-9 to the committee and probably a 6-7 seed.

To be fair, when CM was hired, Stokes was a junior in HS, and McRae and Maymon were the equivalent of Robert Hubbs and AJ Davis.

In other words, he had to earn Stokes on his own, and he had two really good players (as it turns out) on his bench that saw very little playing time.

He is almost entirely responsible for developing them into the players that they are currently.

Who knows if Hubbs and Davis are next, but Zo has done a good job of developing the talent he inherited, and the talent he recruited (J. Richardson, A. Moore, D. Reese). All of those guys have turned out better than most felt when they were signed.

Obviously, he has some misses too, like every coach (Chievous, Ndiaye, Yemi). I feel his biggest problem is in-game management, not recruiting/developing talent. That was his area of expertise at Purdue.

Absolutely agree. You can also add the problem of not finding a PG. In-game management and not finding a PG are my two biggest issues.

By your logic, Buzz receives all the credit for Tennessee's consecutive Sweet 16 appearances. Similar to this year's starting 5, JaJuan Smith and Chris Lofton were brought in by Michael's shoe-shiner in college. Your Stokes example isn't even worth commenting on. Don't worry, you'll get to cheer on Sir Bruce when he takes a different job this August. Let's just hope he doesn't receive a lifetime ban by disgracing himself and his university by lying to the NCAA again.

I almost included that, but didn't because I think Austin, and to an extent, Thompson may be that guy. If Austin is as good a PG as advertised, Thompson can spell him as the backup, and I think you have a formidable duo.

Time will tell.

What makes you think we can compete offensively with Duke?

I watched a Clemson team with far less fire power than U.T. (with similar offensive and defensive schemes) blow Duke out of the water in the regular season, and then take Duke down to the last second only to be beaten by the ever corrupt ACC officials. If you play physical with Duke you can beat them. They are as soft as tissue paper inside. Of course, this is projecting way into the future, but U.T. matches up extremely well with Duke.

You really are one of our most tolerable Memphis fans. Thanks for that.

We'll see next year, right now it looks like two basically can't miss guys in Hubbs (a few questions with him) and Stokes, J. Rich is a solid role player, and Moore could be a good role player too.

I don't agree with Reese, he's a 3 star guy on a team that desperately needs quality depth and in his second year didn't play a minute in 13 games this year.

The Landry situation was bungled horribly too. That pretty much shut us out of that school completely in the future.

To compete for the NCAAs the next two years we're going to have to hope that this entire freshman class majorly overachieves, especially the posts, that Hubbs quickly becomes Jordy level and that we sign a major impact player in 2015.

I don't give a damn about the NFL. Martin might be 60-40, but he's got a goose egg in the tourney, and that's what matters. Dave Hart said it himself. Martin is most likely gone. If not this year, definitely next.

The fact that we have gotten anything from Reese, who averaged 9 ppg as a HS senior (not at a stud-filled prep school either) is amazing.

He has finally become more than a 3-point shooter with a slow release. He has majorly improved as a defender (still room for more improvement), and if not for Stokes and Maymon being elite rebounders, Reese might be our best.

He has greatly overachieved in contrast with my expectations. He's not the guy you want to build your team around, but he is an important role player.

With better game management and better PG play, we can win with less talent. CCM is learning on the job, and that's not really his fault, but he needs to speed up the process or the problem will be corrected one way or another.

As for Landry, that situation was bungled, but if he brings him in, then he is ridiculed for it. Damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. We likely aren't recruiting a lot of kids from Huntington Prep anyway, so the damage is sustainable relative to wasting a scholarship on a player who wouldn't hack it.

You're exactly right. When Bruce was removed it set our program back, only because we didnt hire a qualified replacement.

What exactly were the restrictions CM had to deal with? serious question...

you've got to be kidding. He should have gotten a slap on the wrist. The only thing he did wrong was get caught. If you aint cheatin you aint trying! Others simply get away with it.
