QB competition..

He was the very last of the four QB's referenced.

"Riley Ferguson getting a volume of repetition"

If you're not considered the true "rookie" of the 4 you wouldn't say this.

"We've tried to simulate as many game-speed repetitions as possible."

"TRIED"?? Not a very promising word.
"Game-speed" - An obvious reference to his lack of experience.

I didn't read that Riley reference in a negative manner at all. I thought he was saying he was happy to get RF as many chances as he could because he has "INNATE ABILITY TO CREATE PLAYS". Time will tell. Man. This is going to be a long offseason.

I had to edit this for a misspelling. It was posted for six hours and I wasn't hassled by the VNGP (Vol Nation Grammar Police). It's gonna be a good day. :p

It's free speech but it's the most god awful retarded nickname I can think of.

You want to call a young man that prefers Joshua to Josh and who is one of the top student athletes in the country the Dobb Goblin.

It's such a stretch your poetic license should be denied and not up for renewal until a 5 year period has passed and a board of no less than 22 people unanimously approve it.

You're reaching Coug.

Sorry. Free of Speech for one.
For two, it's very American to use nicknames
for sports figures, military figures (usually of high rank),
taunts, and as terms of endearment. As for the claim it sounds like Knob Gobbler, that just shows where ones head spends most of its time, I suppose.

It was a bit of a joke Woods, relax. That being said, it's a really bad nickname IMO.

Don't worry, even when I am a bit tiffed, it doesn't last. 10 minutes and I don't even remember it. Only when folks like JoshdaMoFo drag on a perpetual string of posts meant only to offend and nothing else do I really get more than "tiffed."

Understand if you and some others don't like the moniker. But to me it's my belief Dobbs is going to be the QB and strike terror in the hearts of opposing defenses. He reminds me of the Marvel character who started out as basically a wannabe. Then morphed into someone who takes on not just our friendly neighborhood Spider-man, but has tangled with the likes of Hercules who went toe to toe with Thor and Hulk and other heavyweights. I just believe that ole Dobby is coming. Oh yeah, he's coming.

I have no idea how you make a negative out of CBJ's comments about Riley. Even after reading your explanation, I don't understand why you think those comments are negative.

Some people seriously need to work on reading comprehension. I've read and re-read the quotes and I can't translate it to "we won't see RF on the field this year", no matter how many times I read it, or spin it. It sounds like coach speak to me that says "we're not telling you yet".

Yeah, I'd say it is a stretch to put any meaning in the order that Jones spoke about them.

OTOH, it is far more common for RF supporters here to take favorable comments and whip them up into proof that he's the starter and next great UT QB.

They are saying some good things about all of the QB's. The "proof" though is who goes out first with the 1's. As long as that continues to be always or mostly Worley... Worley is likely the starter.

I believe that Dobbs is our future (especially next year) But worley starts this year IMO. As I watch the spring training and see 4 QB's competing for the job I can't help but believe that one if not two will go elsewhere after this year. Don't count Worley out, he got what I call a Edumacation last year and his experiance will show this year. This offense I believe is going to be better then what I believed early on. If the D can hold it's own we will surprise some people but we need the experiance that Worley brings to the table. IMHO

Think the tattooed Rifleman wins the nod...eventually gains legend status and has his Manziel level GF's heavily discussed on VN :cool2:

If you're actually watching practices, that gives you a status hard to beat in terms of posting discussions.

I don't count Worley out, I really like the guy. If I'm to be truly honest, my sole reason for having doubts about him at all rests on a single photo. The look of sheer horror he showed in a head on shot of him running the ball. I just can't for the life of me get that image out of my head. The interesting thing is no matter how hard I try, I can't locate that picture again. I suspect why and don't blame the AD for pulling it. It was just so telling. But otherwise, if he starts, I wouldn't consider him undeveloped unless he proves it repeatedly over a course of playing time. I think we'd do pretty well with him as our QB mainly because we have WRs who know what they're doing now.

As for Dobbs, his off season activities just hint, hint, hint, that he's all business and determined to take over. Thing is, I believe him.

Butchna, it would be freaking hilarious and awesome if we ended up having a TAMU 1.0 type season.

You want to win in the hardest league in the nation. You put in your senior with the most experience. Sorry, but Butch needs to get to a bowl this year. Best games of the season: Georgia and South Carolina. Who was manning the ship? Don't know why there's discussion. He didn't lose the job because performance. If he was in instead of Peterman at UF, different outcome. Plain and simple. That was Butch's decision. I bet it haunts him everyday still.

Too true. I'm not sure why Worley isn't the starter. I mean surely he hasn't gotten worse.

I live in Charlotte and have seen Worley and Ferg both play in HS. I am honestly hoping that Worley wins the starting job this season with Ferg the no2 but think that Ferg will be the better QB and start forthe remainder of his eligibility. Did anyone here watch the HS game between Worley and Clowneys respective Rock Hill teams? Worley threw for about 330 yds and 4 tds..IIRC one of which was a 30 yarder or more with Clowney hanging off of him. Worley was the Gatorade Natl HS player of the year...best at ANY position including Clowney. It blew my mind last season to see him throw poorly and look scared. He has a lot of talent I think he has or had confidence issues...I recommend anyone who trashes worley or thinks he has no potential watching that game. People are always quick to say "but that wasn't against a D1 defense." That's true, but the ability to throw a football is not altered by who is defending...it wouldn't matter if he was throwing to girl scouts...you can either zip a ball 40 to 50 yds and still have "touch" on it or you can't...I don't know how Worley could do so in HS but never seems to at UT. FWIW I think Riley will be a 2 year starter and put up similar numbers to Ainge/ Bray depending on how much we run the ball. GBO VFL

Treece and Darago were at practice yesterday and said that Worley was the most consistent and was making not good , but great throws. Said Worley really separated himself yesterday from the pack and that if the season started today that, hands down, Worley would be the starter in both their opinions.

Glad Treece and Darago aren't coaches..:)

Worley will be the starter August 30th. Bank on it.

From the way a lot were talking last season, RF would win the starting job easily. He was praised as the second coming before even taking a snap. I think Worley will probably be the starting QB. As far as playing time this season could be considered his second as a starter.
