So I’ll put my opinion in on this one. I said when Nico was rumored to be headed to UCLA that they might be running off the better QB at least at this point in their careers. App State didn’t have a tremendous supporting cast around him, the floods also made some home games away and just generally caused issues for that team as well.

I prefer any of the guys we were rumored to have went after like Hoover, Becht, Johnson, Robertson better but I really think this kid has a higher ceiling than someone like the Notre Dame transfer. It’s a tremendously tight window and the deck will be stacked against him being successful but I think this kid can be better than Nico last season. I also think he’s a much safer option than Merk as well but I wouldn’t be surprised if one or the other start the year as QB1 and the other one finishes.

It was this kid or Angeli basically. Hoover, Johnson, Robertson, Becht, Altmyer we kicked the tires on all those and offered them great opportunity; just no established starter is jumping this short of notice.

I like the pick up. He throws more picks than I like but he has moxy and he has a fast clock and Huep has proven he can make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t. Hooker was riding the bench at VT and Huep turned him into a Heisman contender. We need to get that WR from BYU and we are set.

Again...they didn't take Nico to be an backup...But some are saying this APP State QB will start at UT. He left because he knew he had no chance at UCLA. He will be an insurance policy here to Merk and Mac will redshirt.
