Former Boston Red Sox farmhand and North Carolina quarterback signee Mike Rozier plans to give college football a shot after being released by the Red Sox two weeks ago, and he's looking at walking on at either USC or Tennessee according to his father, who was his high school coach in Stockbridge, GA. "He came home and said I've got to get an education, and he said he'd like to go back to football," Mike Rozier Sr. said. "He looked around for his style, he's a pro style quarterback. South Carolina watched film and really liked him. He met with coach Wolford and coach Spurrier when he was there." Rozier will visit Tennessee Thursday and plans to make a decision soon after that. "I know he really likes South Carolina," his father said." The 22 year old Rozier signed with North Carolina for football in 2004 after backing off a baseball commitment to Clemson.

Who knows, at 22 hopefully he'd have enough maturity to not fold like an accordian under pressure... Hmmm, was that a backhanded jab at our current stable of QB's????

I don't really know why we wouldn't give him a shot. Didn't Kiffin send out a memo a couple of weeks ago telling students at UT to come tryout if they had played QB in high school?

Something I found on him

He had issues with his weight and conditioning
He had issues ever since he got hit in the head...twice
Possibly losing arm strength. His fastball went from low nineties in high school to low 80s last season

Only a 2* coming out of HS over 4 years ago.

So if he hasn't played football in over 4 years, and wasn't that great then, what is likely to change there?

Edit: And he's a lefty. Not that it matters, I just found that interesting. Who was the last lefty QB we had?

Hit in the head? Twice? Seriously? Dayummm... What kind of issues? Are we talking... mental/behavioral?

Are you serious lv? Please tell me you are joking about kiffin recruiting from the student body.

Nah I'm serious. I may be wrong, but I could have swore that I read something about it on here or heard it on the radio cuz I remember laughing like crazy...

Big athletic lefty. Coming out of high school, Rozier pitched in the low 90s. Inexplicably, his fastball has deteriorated over the years, topping out in the mid-to-high 80s in 2007 and 2008, and only hitting the low 80sh in 2009. Rozier has struggled with composure and confidence issues throughout his career. Also, he has struggled with his weight and conditioning. Rozier was hit in the head by a batted ball on two occasions in late 2007, and that has seemingly had a lingering effect on his mound composure.

Thats some of the relevant stuff from his baseball profile

kiffin was looking for scout QB's because of the lack of depth and the ongoing battle for No. 1.

He was not looking for a starter.

All this kid would be is a scout QB, but who knows.

OK, thanks... Sometimes a blow to the head can do strange things to the brain. I have a friend that was in a car wreck and suffered head trauma. Ever since, he's been... let's say, aggressive and has anger management issues. That's why I asked.

Recruiting a scout team qb makes sense. I was thinking that would destroy what little confidence our current qbs have.

Rick Clausen I think.

That is so strange. Kiffin walked away from one of the top prospects in the nation, because he didn't think he would fit the system, but he's looking for QB's in the student body? This must be for 4th string scout team QB.

Looking at the prospects numbers, 5.1 40, 235 bench, that's really weak and slow, even for a QB. He can't bench much more then his weight, and is slower then some of the OL on this team.

IMO if we want him, we'll get him but im not sure how much we want him.

What's not to want? He won't cost a scholarship and appears to have the measurables that CLK is looking for. Plus, he's got a 22 year old's maturity as opposed to a kid that's never been away from home.

If they grab him, it would certainly make the QB competition this fall a little more interesting than it already is...

That's a little different from just a general comment about composure.

The one thing you can't worry about as a pitcher is whether you are going to get hit or not. The minute that enters your mind... you're done.

"Weight and conditioning"? He'd definitely flip or fly with Smith in charge of that.

I will put money on the fact that Peyton Manning can't bench much more than 235. Being too strong can limit flexibility and work against a pocket QB.

what a dumb comment..

If you put money on that you would lose every dime in your pocket. Peyton Manning is a work-out warrior
