What throws did he consistently make tonight that would make me want to start him.
I think he over threw more than he made.
Not accurate. It was a QB battle the entire camp between Stewart and Manning behind Colquitt. The fans were 50/50 on which one should be the guy behind Colquitt. The coaches never had Stewart ahead of Manning. They may have had them tied at some point, but Manning was always in contention to be the QB after Colquitt. (and Helton to be honest)Peyton wasn’t the first choice to replace Colquitt. That was Brandon Stewart. Peyton got the nod after Stewart got hurt.

You're skipping ahead though. Peyton was third string behind Colquitt and Helton and ahead of Stewart at the beginning of the season. Peyton came into the UCLA game before Stewart was given an opportunity. Manning did not look the best in the UCLA game, so Stewart was given the next opportunity. Stewart also didn't look good in his opportunity and then Manning took control for good. It had nothing to do with Stewart getting injured. Colquitt and Helton were the two QBs who were injured that season which opened the door for Manning. Please see my previous post. Unless the data is inaccurate (which it's not), Stewart was named the starter over Peyton after Helton. Peyton was only named the starter after Stewart got hurt. Now maybe at some point Peyton would have taken over, but that is not the history.
That's the way I remember it as well. I don't even remember Stewart getting injured, he just never mastered the center / QB exchange which was kind of a critical part of the job back then. Had we been in the era of permanent shotgun then, things might have turned out different, although I can't imagine he would have been able to stay permanently ahead of Manning. You're skipping ahead though. Sorry but that is not correct. FSU is the one that needed teams to lose to get in, not us. I think both K State and UCLA lost to get them in, but we were a lock.Side note Stewart ended up getting an assist in our Natty, his T AM team upset K State who was odds on favorite to play FSU in the Natty the former Vol was player of game in Big 12 championship. Putting UT in the final 2 BCS teams.
Prepare to go 6-6 vs a very soft schedule. I could see playing a freshman Qb the last 3-4 games. But not early. After the way Milton played tonight when he took over for Hendon, I hope that Nico starts from game one on next year. Yeah we might lose a few but he is our future so minus we’ll let him gain the experience. I remember when Jerry Colquitt got hurt and they threw a kid named Peyton Manning in as a freshman. We saw how all of that experience eventually paid off.
