Question for board about next year's team...

Ok. I can understand that. I just personally think it leans the other way.

It's almost the same scenario. In both years we will be waiting to see if guys step up. In year 1 we got that from Golden and Maymon. In the 2nd scenario, year 4, will we get that from Richardson or some of the others already on the team? Hard to tell. A better time to have this discussion will be at the end of next season. Then it will be clear which one was better.

I think next year will be helped by having a real PG at the PG position as both starter and backup. There have not been a lot of those in recent memory. Only Maze/Goins comes to mind over last 10 years.

Agree. I think it's really gonna help the defense to have a quick defensive pg, that can shut down opposing PGs.

Crazy to think how people use to hate Maze/Goins and now we're missing them.

If Austin's defense is what we think that kind of effort can be contagious. Don't think we average as many points but I do think our team defense could be better.

That lends itself to creating havoc on the court. Our wings and guards have long ass arms. They should be playing passing lanes and trying to get steals. Our defensive strategy plays against everything we're built for.

Generally, teams that overplay on the perimeter have bigs who can protect the rim when the other team's perimeter players drive the lane. I agree with your assesment of our current guards being long and suited to being overly aggressive on D, but as we have no shot blockers I wonder if that strategy would end up hurting more than helping? A few extra fouls on Stokes and Maymon from driving guards and they'd be in big trouble.

I agree with you that this years team is better suited to stay at home, and keep our bigs from being in a position to have to contest shots around the basket.

But next years team will have a few more athletic leapers seeing playing time to possibly help and contest if our guards do get beat going for steals. Maybe we can steal a page from VCU's havoc book.

Probably not bc I dont think Zo likes that style....He likes positioning defense.

Probably right. I sure do wish he would get more knowledgeable/experienced assistants to help him become a more versatile coach. Yes men are nice, but not for a long term coaching career. IMO

I agree and wish he would get a top notch recruiting assistant too.

I'd have a little more confidence in CCM if he had new assistants. With Shay, Forbes, T Jones you knew all their strengths and what they brought to the table. With Webster, Williams, and Chris Rock you have a cluster f*** on the sidelines. A good set of assistants will make or break a coach and right now it's breaking CCM. An offensive mind, and a motivator would be two qualities that I'd like to see.
