Question for the basketball experts Hat, BPV, etc...

I have been bitching about our halfcourt offense for the past few years. I truely believe that we were bailed out the past 2 years by the ability of Chris Lofton and J. Smith to hit long range shots which stretched the D.

Not only is our halfcourt offense terrible in execution, but in type and sets. Honestly, with our athletic ability, I would like us to use more of a Bob Knight motion offense. We could run several different sets out of this. Our problem with the zone goes to a lack of outside shooters, lack of a slasher who can score and dish, and terrible movement without the ball.

The Rocky Top league has absolutely nothing to do with the team's obvious lack of experience and defensive woes.

That being said, i think it is laugable to call anyone an "expert" who roam this forum including Hat. I am a little surprised Hat is bragging about his AAU coaching. I don't consider myself an expert but I am reasonably confident I know at least as much as BPV or Hat for that matter.

I wouldn't do that if I were you, unless of coarse you were being equally sarcastic.

You thought I was serious?

I was trying to make a point that there really AREN'T any basketball "experts" in this forum. Well, let me say, I haven't' seen any to this point. I am confident I am fairly knowledgable about it, just as Hat and BPV are, but that is where it ends.

What the hell is a basketball "expert" and who in this forum claims to be one?

The flex O is very far from a horrible offense. The lack of a true 3 pt shooter hurts us in the half court. And the lack of a TRUE big man in the paint hurts as well. Say what you will but Chism is not a true big neither is Tyler as you see both of them out of the lane more times than not.
This year the team simply is not running the offense well and the flex is not the greatest against a zone if not run perfectly. Personally I do not like it vs a zone, much better vs a man and these guys for the most part are too young to run it right vs a zone. We do not have the patience combined with ball movement right now...may not at all this season.

Did I say the flex was horrible? No - I said our flex offense was horrible, huge difference. The way we run it is pathetic.

I played jr pro, made about 87% of my free throws and averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds per game. I am positive this puts me into this expert status.

No - because your Assist to Turnover ratio was a measly 1 to 4.

i agree that the way we run the flex is lacking..
lacking finesse, intensity, direction, hustle, precision etc....
the flex can be run effectively against a zone especially if the zone follows the ball and your guards swing the ball well with posts that can control blocks as well as the elbow.
the flex only has about 1000 variations and can be quite complex.

Kindof like the Princeton offense....many high schools run it and show you 3 to 4 variances where in theory the princeton offense has over 600 different ways it can be run when you consider coming into it from secondary break and how you set, where you start and who starts where although in theory to run the princeton offense effectively you want 1-5 to be able to do the same.

anyway....
the flex for our team is better vs a zone than us setting in that 1-4 low and watching the guard dribble for 25 seconds then moving to try something

IMO, the best offense that you can run, as long as you have patient players. Can keep a crap team in a game with a good team because of the slow development of the offense, thus keeping the ball out of the opponents hands.

Again, who runs the flex against a zone?
