Question to CCM supporters

I don't blame you, but the problem is simple, my friend. It won't get better this year unfortunately. He has to find a PG.

Oh I know. But that doesn't mean you still run offensive sets that have us trying to make passes to the wing that turn into turnovers or running motion 30 feet out.
That's getting old.

Just curious, has anyone watched basketball before? How about this team prior to tonight?

Let me try...McRae is the PG because we don't have one. Golden is slow, makes poor decisions, and even worse, he hasn't been scoring- which is his strength. Marshall Henderson is a flat out shooter. I didn't see the first half but he scored squat. If he gets 15-20 shots a game, he will make some. You just have to limit the 3's. Richardson couldn't play him late because he had 4 fouls. Good shooters can hit contested shots.

I am not defending CCM, but it amazes me who decides to throw out the complaints after each and every loss. Our team's biggest weakness is guard play, and it is required in the college game. It wasn't Martin's fault last year because Pearl left nothing. It is his fault this year because he hasn't recruited very well at that position. Pearl inherited Watson and Lofton even though the rest of the roster wasn't great. Guard play, guard play. You need it to win close games.

We held OM to 62 points- they average over 80. Defense wasn't the problem. Closing out a game was.

First off we didn't hold them to anything. The first half they couldn't hit an elephant in the butt with a 2 x 4 and that kept the score down. 10 players on this team belong to Martin and everyone is using Pearl's players as an excuse for not winning. Stop and smell what you are shoveling.

McBee should go ahead and have his surgery. It's obviously affecting what little he does contribute to the team.

McRae is either a small forward or shooting guard. He definitely isn't a point guard.

I don't know what's happened to Golden but he seems to be getting worse instead of better.

What happened to Lopez? He's the best point guard on the team from what few times I've seen him in games.

This team needs to learn how to make free throws if they want to win.

My main disappointment from tonight is that we let their best player beat us. The guy we knew they were going to look to absolutely torched us.

Couldn't we have doubled him or something? If I'm coach Martin (and thank God I'm not, haha), I tell my team: "DO NOT LET HENDERSON BEAT US! If someone else beats us, fine, but keep him bottled up!"

Yea. Another problem is the decision making though. McRae is not used to setting up someone else and makes terrible passes, and poor Golden cant make good decisions. The ball handling is terrible. Moore has potential, but he is just young. They tried hard to set up Stokes, and he is slow making decisions. Nothing is working.

Holding them to 62 doesn't necessarily mean we played good D....almost every possession we were running the shot clock inside 10 before we initiated any type of scoring attempts.

My takeaways from this game:
1) For those who say CCM can't develop players or that every player is regressing, I would point to A. Moore as an argument against this. The kid has developed nicely into a beast on the defensive end....best help-side defender we have.

2) the Henderson kid for ole miss is a pure shooter & is gonna get his points...however, we helped him out a great deal by not helping when he came off the picks in the 2nd half. At least twice, our defenders on the player setting the pick didn't even see him coming off the pick until the ball was already in the air. Poor defensive technique, IMO...which is a coaching issue.

3) the frustration I have with this team is that they have now played well enough for 3/4 of the game at Rupp & at ole miss...& honestly played well enough to win the game, but still lost them. How CCM doesn't go ape-sh!t tonight when the officials were screwing us is beyond me...dudes got to show some fire at some point.

4) I told my son as the game was ending tonight that I wasn't watching another game by this team this year. Does that mean I'm not a 'true'fan? Absolutely not. It means I know bad basketball when I see it & I'm gonna end up taking a baseball bat to my television if I have to sit thru much more of this team.

Sure. So they shoot bad and it's their fault. Give us no credit. Makes sense.

You expect new players to contribute immediately? Pearl left the experience- McRae, Golden, McBee, Hall. Pearl recruited poorly at guard as well. But Martin hasn't recruited great either.

I am not happy, but I am tired tired of the must win now attitude after our last coach put us in a tough spot. I loved Bruce, but he hurt our program.

To CM's credit, not all of Henderson's three's we're defendable. Some looked six feet outside the line.

If Pearl had lasted one more year, people would understand this better. Martin started with nothing. If Jordan McRae is your best scorer then you're screwed.

Next year has to be for keeps though. Maymon, Stokes, Hubbs, presumably. Get to the NCAA tournament and win a game. No excuses.

The same Jordan McRae averaging 20+ in the last 8 or so games?

McRae isn't the problem, it's everyone else who is offensively incompetent out there.

This, I agree.

Can't read all this B.S. Golden is a decent player, but he has no idea how to dribble with his left hand. Stokes's feet are too big for him to be able to move properly, and good lord you can't have your team fouling so damn much that the other team takes more foul shots than they do field goal shots every freakin game. Mcbee is not a D-1 player. Not *****ing just pointing out the obvious as a former mediocre player. Go Vols

I'm the biggest Cuonzo supporter on this board. That said, the fact that Josh Richardson wasn't guarding Marshall Henderson from the opening warmups remains a mystery to me.

Goodness. :lolabove:

Ladies and gentlemen, look no further than this thread for proof of the 'instant gratification' sports culture we live in today.

Clearly I'm not following the thought you are pushing here. What are we other than a .500 team with a losing conference record?

How does that relate to 'instant gratification' at all? That's a half season of basketball and a clear indicator of what kind of team this is.

People just need to accept that Martin is going to be here after this season. If everyone can just stop and watch what's going on until then, we can have legitimate debates about it a year from now. Until then, relax. Martin isn't going anywhere, just try to enjoy the games and keep your undergarments outside of your anus.
