Question to those who listens to Tony Basilio

I haven’t noticed that, but will have to pay closer attention now that you mentioned that. Maybe it’s where there’s been so much much going on with the football team in the playoffs and portal drama and the basketball team ramping things up and all the things going on with the holidays. I know his show isn’t for everyone, but he and the guys on the show seem like good folks that try to help those in need in the community, and are just common fans of the Vols like us, and don’t take themselves too seriously like some other sports talk shows do. I wonder if the caller NegaDave is a member on here? He’s been on a roll here lately, and would fit right in with many of those posts here the past couple weeks, especially. I know he’s chomping at the bit to be the first caller when the basketball team loses their first game this season.

I have also wondered if it's just mental exhaustion after doing so many of those late night Fifth Quarter Fan Reaction shows. We did play a lot of night games this year, resulting in a lot of shows running into the wee hours. Adding to that, all the basketball overtime shows, the baseball call in shows, plus his daily show, it has to be wearing Tony down.

Along with nega Dave, another caller that's been on a roll lately has been Mark in Columbus. I used to loathe him calling the show because I felt like he had boxed himself into doing a "schtick" everytime he called. But lately he's been a lot more reasonable and making great points!

The one caller I just cannot abide is Titans Bill. I know he's a permanent fixture of the show, but I completely tune out every time I hear his voice. All he wants to discuss is Titans and the NFL, two subjects I couldnt possibly care less about!

Who should the fan base listen to?
“Sports Talk J”. He listens to all these other guys so you don’t have to. He’ll fill you in on anything that’s important. Plus he’s got a “Family Guy” routine where he plays timely clips for humor - and he’s good at it.

Now, if you’re looking for more time consuming entertainment, I really like VolQuest with Ramon Foster. Off The Hook Sports has been good all year, but I’ve been frustrated with the downtime and not knowing when to expect them back.

Basillo made an outlandish claim about Danny White selling thousands of tickets to resale venders to drive up prices. While that is some juicy gossip, I never saw anything to back that claim and frankly feel like he wasted my time, while I looked for any supporting evidence. I try to “not interested” his videos whenever they come up.

I wonder if the caller NegaDave is a member on here?
My guess is that anyone who covers TN sports has an account here to gauge the temperature of the fanbase. Save for some old writers who probably came up with their methods long before the internet was a household item.

Have any of you noticed something strange lately with Tony on the air? I've noticed that he gets a LOT of names/facts mixed up lately. I mean, we're all guilty of doing this at some point or another. However, with Tony it seems like I hear him doing this a lot these days. Like...a LOT and many times he doesn't even realize he's doing it. I hope the guy is ok, but it might be something he needs to get checked out.
He doesn’t sleep well at all. Add in he’s surviving off of energy drinks and he’s all over the place 😅

If true, that's tough. I'm so thankful I don't suffer from that issue. My dad does and it really has affected his health.
I’ve heard him mention it a lot nonchalantly, he’ll always say “he’s going off a couple hours of sleep” and energy drink at hand, and he’ll be on the most random YouTube live after midnight. He’s older, those damn energy drinks are rough on you

Well, don’t those 5th quarter post games go all night often? Can’t imagine he gets much sleep in the fall on Saturday nights. Also after BB and Baseball games.

Basilio is a legend and a VFL. Some may not like his personality, but his post game shows have walked me off the ledge after some very painful losses over the past 15-20 years and have provided some great ‘group therapy’. He also has a team of hosts that are actually pretty insightful. They also tell it like it is and don’t sugar coat anything. If some of you all want you standard, boring and ‘inside the box shows’ by all means listen to someone else.
I’ve been listening and calling off and on for 30 years. Basilio is entertaining and loves the Knoxville community and the Vols. He does a lot for the community (much of which isn’t announced) which I respect very much. GBO.

I’m 35 and I can’t remember like I used to already. I’m assuming 60 will be pretty tough.
It really hits you in your 40s, especially if you have a few kids. I had a photographic memory until I had twins. Now I can barely remember my own name.

Over the years, Tony has been very open (something I appreciate and admire) about his own struggles with things like depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, exhaustion, as well as how the holiday season can exacerbate those things in him.

Throw that in to an absolute grind of a football season not ending until 12/22, I'm guessing he hit a wall. I'm glad he's taking some days to recharge here and there, and hopefully gets a lot of help with the basketball shows.
