I have to say that I am amazed by what has transpired to this point. I was completely underwhelmed by the hire and was convinced that he was a product of Kelly's coattails. I realize that he has yet to coach a game on the Hill, but man, he has pushed all the right buttons so far. I will say that the thing that, perhaps impressed me the most, is how he has embraced his love for my university. He seems completely genuine in his excitement and love for the large orange. My predictions:

1) 7-6 with a bowl win, possibly 8-5 with an upset of SoCarLite

2) Marlin Lane has a better season than Neal.

3) Woody Quinn has 4 Tds and at least 30 receptions

4) Worley will start every game this season will be surprisingly good. I honestly think that the Vol Nation will be shocked at how well he plays. I believe that he the best game manager we have and I believe that is all Butch will ask him to do. I admit that I worry about the ints.

5) Jacques will be a force and end up 2nd team all SEC.

6) Randolph will be 3rd Team all SEC

7) Tiny and James will celebrate 21 point win over vandy by pancaking James Franklin.

8) Vols play Carolina in Memphis and win convincingly for 7th victory

9) Non vol prediction but Bama will destroy Johnny Football this time around

10) We back the Brinks truck up to Thig's house as several schools come calling.

11) All orange unis vs Peay

1) 7-6 with a bowl win, possibly 8-5 with an upset of SoCarLite Maybe

2) Marlin Lane has a better season than Neal. Probably

3) Woody Quinn has 4 Tds and at least 30 receptions won't happen

4) Worley will start every game this season will be surprisingly good. I honestly think that the Vol Nation will be shocked at how well he plays. I believe that he the best game manager we have and I believe that is all Butch will ask him to do. I admit that I worry about the ints. Butch really doesn't run a style for a "game manager"

5) Jacques will be a force and end up 2nd team all SEC. That would be nice!

6) Randolph will be 3rd Team all SEC why not 1st team?

7) Tiny and James will celebrate 21 point win over vandy by pancaking James Franklin. we can only hope

8) Vols play Carolina in Memphis and win convincingly for 7th victory not going to happen

9) Non vol prediction but Bama will destroy Johnny Football this time around not going to happen

10) We back the Brinks truck up to Thig's house as several schools come calling. we have a history of NOT doing this, he will probably be elsewhere this time next year :(

11) All orange unis vs Peay no we lose every time.

At least I don't have to hear If our coaches get other jobs we are doing something right.

I may just be a Homer, but I feel like our defense won't resemble what we saw last year. I think our D line should be hard to run on, especially if we can keep contain on the ends. I know if I'm a RB, I DO NOT want to be looking at McCullers and crew! I expect to see more pressure on opposing QB's, and feel like this can lead to more turnover opportunities...whether forced fumbles, interceptions, etc.

With their size and speed, if our WR's can progress early, they can take a lot of pressure off of the QB, and hopefully open up some holes for the run game. I'm hoping to see Hill contribute and give us a three headed running attack that exceeds our expectations.

Early on, I could see multiple QB's getting playing time...Jones seemed to do a good job using both pocket and dual threat QB's at Cincy when he had to or needed to

Again, I may be a homer...I also know there may be some challenges this year, but I'm going into each game expecting to find a way to win, and hoping our guys learn from the games we don't. Go Vols!!!

(1) We will go 6 - 6 for the season.

(2) Both runningbacks will have similar stats, unless one is injured.

(3) Yes, Woody & Downs will do well this season. The Q.B. will depend on the T.E. alot while the new receivers get acclimated to the college game.

(4) Worley will lose his starting job after the first four games of the season. He will share snaps with Peterman for the first four games, and then will be benched around the 4th game. At season's end, Worley will transfer.

(5) Jordan Williams will be a force on defense.

(6) Randolph will do well, if he remains healthy.

(7) If we beat Vandy it will be less than the 21 points that you predict.

(8) Vols will be in Music City Bowl or Liberty Bowl. Should win that game and give us momentum for the of season. The 2014 E.E.'s will be able to participate in the bowl practices.

(9) A & M will enter the game against Alabama, with their heads swelled and think they can beat Bama again.
It won't happen though.

(10) Thig will be convinced to leave U.T. and head to Florida, where recruiting is not as challenging.

(11) CBJ wear orange pants at some point in the season.

Sorry but 6 wins assumes that he only beats Mizzou, UK, VU, APSU, USA, and WKU. That would be by definition "underwhelming" with a roster that may well but all five starting OL's, 2 or 3 DL's, and at least one LB in the draft next year.

I know there are holes... but that's why we hire coaches.

Dust this off come January and if you are right on most counts, you can do this again next year! Go Vols!

1- 7-5 regular season. Six wins vs those expected plus a win over someone currently expected to be a loss
2- Neal will be like Hardesty. Both RB's will be considered "surprises" if healthy.
3- Slot receivers will make lots of catches. Receivers as a group will block better than they have in years
4- Agree on Worley. Peterman considers transferring.
5- DL as a whole will be considered "surprisingly good". Several will play better simply because they aren't carrying the extra weight Dooley/Sunseri asked them to carry to play the 3-4.
6- Randolph, McNeil, and Moore will play well as S. UT will struggle to fill the hole at CB opposite Coleman all year.
7- UT will run over Vandy with possibly their best rushing effort of the year.
8- Probably drop to a lower level bowl than their record indicates. Would not be surprised to see the Music City even with 7 wins.
9-Agreed.... if Manziel makes it that long. The guy is on a path to destruction right now with his ego.
10- Staff will remain intact through the end of '14.
11- No orange pants. Black pants maybe.

On #3...is it Quinn you doubt, or the TE position as a whole? Just curious

The way I see it, Jones' system seems to use the TE quite frequently. We may have more than one TE, but it would seem rotating them gives plenty of opportunity. With his size and athleticism, I see no reason Quinn can't have an pact.

Not sure I agree with all of your points, but I like your fire and it's always good to see you around, Rex. I hope all is well.

i have to ask.

i have seen you emphasize over and over about if butch is the guy the vols better do better than 6-6 or they'll be looking for a coach in 3 years.

yet, you have tennessee going 7-5. that isn't a whole heck of a lot different. is one extra win in his first season that critical to predicting his future?

I am being conservative but yes it is. Fulmer went several years without beating anyone he "shouldn't have beaten". Came close but failed vs LSU. Kiffin came close vs Bama and UF... but failed to beat anyone he wasn't expected to beat. Dooley in year one let LSU and UNC slip away and things pretty much went downhill from there.

It has probably been what 8...10 seasons since UT had a coach that stepped up and won a "big game"? The closest thing to it that I can remember is either Cal in 2006 or UGA in 2007.

So yeah, I think it is absolutely critical to Jones' future at UT that he steps and "surprises" everyone with a win over a favored opponent... and I am not sure I'd count Auburn since they are likely not to have a very good record and would be dismissed.

I am pragmatic here also. If six is reasonable this year then what about next year when most of his talent and experience are gone from the OL, DL, and LB? 4? 5? 6 again? It would be a very valid criticism of Dooley that Jones' 14 roster will be similar in experience to Dooley's first two rosters that struggled badly. He really needs to get something akin to a "signature win" this year.

If Jones wins only 5 or 6 this year then no more than 6 next year... the delusional kool-aid drinkers here and elsewhere will change their screen names and haul out their pitchforks. He will need to do something pretty amazing with the '15 team using a roster that still has Fr and Sophs as its most talented players.

I am sure that you are just fine with UT being a competitive "also ran" on a continuing basis while UF, Bama, et al sit at the top. Apparently too many UT fans are. But some of us really aren't. We think UT should be just as ruthless as UF or Bama would be and have been in their search for "the guy".
