George Whitfield Jr. was the one on ESPN Gameday who worked with Aaron Murray Cam Newton, Johnny Manziel. and Tahj Boyd and others. I don't know much about Quincy Avery.

Since I haven't seen anyone post it yet, here's the actual video of Josh in training. It's from his Instagram. The footwork on that first throw is big-time.

Yes, that's who Dobbs is training with. I have no clue who Quincy Avery is.

This is happening in LA at the Elite 11 Regional. Bruce Feldman has tweeted that Quincy Avery & George Whitfield are both there working with the QBs.

Avery was Dobbs' personal QB trainer before he got to UT as well. Josh Dobbs' calls now will be with Tennessee Vols | timesfreepress.com

This kid gets way too much criticism IMO given that he was a true freshman. But he's a QB and it comes with the territory. He'll compete and compete well for the starting job IMO. 3 horse race.

I hear ya KB but when we saw Bray play for the first time, despite the freshman mistakes, you could see he has the physical tools throwing the football to be a great passing QB. He threw laser beams. I didn't see enough from Dobbs over his starts to lead me to the same conclusion. I think that's why so many people are desperate for Ferguson to be great. because they know what they have with the others. With that said I think Worley could be a very solid QB next year if needed.

I expect Dobbs to open up spring ball as the starter but have no idea who will win the job

Among many other things, VN is in denial of this fact and also in denial that Dobbs had passes completed in microscopic windows that even established greats would drool over as well as plenty of dead on passes (both ones that were caught by as well as dropped by an inexperienced drop prone WR/TE corps and ones that were dropped for no excusable reason).

What Dobbs also was, however, was inconsistent just like every other true frosh and unfortunate enough to start during a surprisingly hard stretch against outstanding teams with no set of cupcakes to break him in as is common with experienced and undisputed great college QBs and also unfortunate to start with the season taking its toll physically and mentally on those who would've otherwise been able to help him out more. A lot of people don't know North went out in the Vandy game and blew up the gameplan and I question whether many complainers bothered watching UK.

They also don't count Worley's multiple INTs (comparable to the number of games played) or his 10 TDs and five of those (50 percent!) came against cupcakes. But Worley managed to go out on a high note despite his terrible first half play at Bama (and we know now he was far from the only QB who suffered injuries this year) whereas Dobbs had the misfortune of starting when the season was pretty done and the losses (minus Vandy which was greatly effected by losing North) all but guaranteed.

That said, while I think Dobbs enters with a slight edge anyone can emerge the starter. However, VN hasn't come close to judging him or Worley who had to deal with drops just like Dobbs fairly. I just hope that competition brings out the best in all our QBs and that whoever emerges as QB will be supported.

I know I will support whoever is named starter whether it's Dobbs, Worley, Peterman (yes even Peterman) or Ferguson. I'm sick and tired of the fanboy based arguments and just want a QB.

May the best Vol win not just the job bit also more games than our board wide cynicism will allow anyone to dream of lest they be shot down and labeled as 'unrealistic' and 'setting themselves up for meltdown' at the merest hint of trouble regardless of whether there's evidence that's the case. :toast:

Yeah how long did Peyton actually spend with him individually? I am sure Peyton spent a couple of weeks working with Dobbs exclusively. Sheesh.

Dude. If Peyton touches you, you absorb some of his power/majik/sorcery and instantly become not just a better QB but a better person.

Seems like the video was filmed with an old 8mm through some yellow plastic wrap that was in a trashcan. Besides what is promising is that he is making some serious effort during his time off to improve, and isn't out chuckin' bud ice bottles off a balcony or doing bong hits in a Pilot parking lot.

Vine posted -- size and footwork -- is plain wow but after reading up on Whitfield maybe we shouldn't be surprised:

In 2011, Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and first overall selection Cam Newton began working with George Whitfield, Jr. in preparation for the NFL Draft.[4]

In 2012, Stanford University quarterback, and NFL first overall Selection Andrew Luck began working with George Whitfield, Jr. in preparation for the NFL Draft.

In 2012, NFL veteran and free agent Donovan McNabb sought out Whitfield's services to aid in offseason weight loss and to prepare for the upcoming season.[5]

Perhaps Whitfield's greatest professional accomplishment is reflected in the Heisman Trophy awarded to Johnny Manziel (aka "Johnny Football") whom he groomed in the summer of 2012. Manziel's rise from obscurity to becoming the first player in history to win the prestigious award as a freshman can, in large part, be credited to his work under Whitfield's guidance.
