Quite possibly the most perfectly executed play in Vol History

„Someone who was alive at the time“???Good golly, this was just the other day in my memory. You make it sound like the Battle Of the Alamo 😂😂😂

But then I found the text of Johnny‘s pregame speech and it did sound a bit dated. Maybe you are right 😉
——————————-
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
My parents were married in 85, so yeah, that seems like a long time ago for me 😂

Mose Phillips screen pass against Florida in a monsoon. Only problem, it was raining so hard half the stadium couldn't see the entire play, but they caught Florida in a blitz and hit Mose in the right flat with no one on that entire side of the field. 80 yard TD.

We were in X10, the first row behind FU fans, as Mose rumbled toward us. It was electric. My personal favorite in-person moment.
"...and Phillips splashes free!"

Ward was a linguistic genius

I remember that play very well. I was in the stands and on the end where he blasted into the end zone. Granted, our seats for the band weren't the best in the world in the stadium, but it looked awesome on the diamond vision screen. Benny Blades was supposed to be the fastest player in college at the time and Jeff Powell made him look like he was running in quicksand.

we were in the opposite end zone as he ran away from us......I think that play was the proverbial dagger right thru the heart

Someone who was alive at the time.. give me your thoughts going into this game
I was alive then, watched the game on TV. The whole time leading up to the game, I had the confidence that Tennessee was going to win. Yeah, Miami had all the hype, and maybe they didn't take Tennessee seriously, but whatever the reason, Tennessee played one of the best games I've ever witnessed that night.

To me Travis Stephens had a TD run against a Florida team that qualifies IMO. A simple hand off straight up the middle and as he approaches the hole it was so well blocked it looked Charlon Heston parting the waters of the Red Sea. The hole opened as soon as he hit without breaking a stride and was as wide as two car lengths almost. Probably one of the best executed plays at any level I've ever seen.

Don't forget the screen pass to Travis Stephens that went for a 62 yard TD late in the 2001 Georgia game. Just try to forget the ending...

The 2 point conversion to Fant against Bama is going to deserve some consideration in this discussion. That was a masterpiece.
They ran the same play against Pitt to. I guess Bammer didnt watch film lol

When it comes to blocking execution in the clutch, I think of Jay Graham’s 80 yard run against Bama in 1996 in the last 2 minutes to give us the lead and the win. Bama knew we were running the ball up the middle, but our guys blocked perfectly on that play.

The defense had been tough as nails the second half of the season and the offense was taking care of the ball and not turning it over. They were tough.
I was confident enough to take the Vols and the points and bet my pants for the ride home in 15 degree weather

@peaygolf I'm seeing next year's offseason countdown taking shape...did the 250 best wins in Vol History this year, how about the Top 250 plays ???
Talk about spirited debate !!!
That would be fun...............and time consuming.

A good idea though...............:)
