Sounds like the exact opposite argument we heard when Bama hired Nick Saban. "Oh, there's no way to know for sure that he'll be successful."How do you know we will suck for 4 years?? Your putting a lot of unneeded pressure on a man before he starts even coaching his first game here, trying to predict the future. There are just too many Miss Cleo's here nowadays.
As opposed to having the next guy just get off to an earlier start?
He did okay, but he wasn't near where Kiffin would have been. Either way, stealing a bunch of players from bad teams and signing a good prospect the previous guys had worked on doesn't change the fact that we brought in a coach with mediocre WAC success to challenge two coaches who could end up being considered as two of the all time greats.besides him signing the #9 class in the country in 2 weeks and hiring a solid staff? ok, then.
It does take time. It just won't take a good coach 4 years to get people to realize he's good.OMG.
Ok, check this out, no matter who the coach is, when you get a new coach, high profile or not, you still have to gain the trust of these HS kids. Now, since you have only been the coach of a program for let's say 4 months, and you are going after guys that other schools have been going after for let's say 3 years, then how far behind are you?? Over 2 years!! That's how it works, you don't magically hire someone and sprinkle some pixie dust on some recruits and they come to you because your some great coach. It takes time, trust, and results each year to convince these kids, and when you have ZERO of everything I just mentioned, you stay behind the wall until you do.
Then we should just pick coaches out of a hat. Since what they've done prior to coming to UT is irrelevant, it's all one big crapshoot. We could save a whole bunch of money. I'm sure the guy at Catawba would love to get a shot here. And you have NO body of work here at UT to say he will or won't either. Your ready to hire the next guy, step back and let's see if this guy can do what he says he wants to do.
Yeah, just look how long it took Saban to get that "trust" at Alabama. I wonder when their recruiting will recover.OMG.
